Darth, I dunno what you had in mind... I haven't seen (or heard) of Quest of/for Fire... My title is "Quest of Fire"...
And no, my idea does not involve the primitive man discovering fire... Although, now that you mentioned it, it seems like a nice idea...

Oh yay! I'm glad you all like the theme. I thought it'd be fun, but wasn't entirely sure how people would take it. Looks like there will be a fair amount of entries already. This is exciting. I can't wait to read everyone's.
And yes, DD, I am a stickler. I think it has something to do with the fact that I manage a bunch of teenagers. You have to be a stickler.

Ah, how I wish I could contribute something - *sigh* Perhaps next month, then. Kudos for the creative idea - I don't think I've seen one like this since I've joined.

Some writing, some editing and a bit more second guessing than there should be, here it is.
Abyss and Fire

(* I almost put up the editing thread. Could I trust you all to edit my work responsibly?)
It is interesting the direction the title took me. Now I can read the other entries.

I'm about 50% done, I think. It's starting to get tough

I'm still stewing over mine. . . I know what kind of tone I want and I even have characters, but I don't have a story. I've just been playing around and putting them into different scenarios to see what they do. Maybe I'll be inspired that way.

This is killing me -- I've got a concept and a first half that I really like, and I just can't stick the landing. It either runs me too long or it's too tonally different from the first half. I think I'm just going to step away from it for a bit and see what hitting it fresh does.

And I'm off to the races. Finally got to put down a couple of paragraphs. This story could run away with itself. Edit Edit Edit.
My short story is pretty much laid to bed so I got to start this one. Hoo Ray.

I'm working on something novel length, at the moment (to be submitted in the workshop thread eventually), but I will be by to read and vote. In recent days, I've had a moment of serendipity. Unfortunately, it was while driving in wintry conditions. Thanks to a triple-A membership and no damage to vehicle or operator, it was relatively harmless.
