Here's some stuff, just off the top of my head-

    (edit: checked a few things)

    Innail:

Symbol: a running horse, after the noble horse Lanogrim who lived there.
About: Near the mountains. Speciality is cuisine, you're right. First Bard Oron.

    Lirigon:

    Symbol: Four-pointed star
About: Cadvan's School, of course. I can't remember much else, although I think he said the houses there were red brick? First Bard Vaclal.

    Pellinor:

    Symbol: Arum Lily
About: Maerad's School, of course, and the home of the House of Karn, a famous line of seers with elemental blood. Near the mountains. First Bard was Milana.

    Ettinor:

    Symbol: Clover leaf, I think.
About: Corrupt, with an impoverished Fesse. Can’t recall First Bard’s name although may well be mentioned.

    Desor:

    Symbol: Unknown. Possibly a thistle.
About: See Ettinor. First Bard Handar.

    Turbansk:

    Symbol: The Sun
About: In the Suderain. Colourful and busy. Very ancient, particularly library. Possibly charaterised by rose-coloured stone? Withstood Great Silence. First Bard Juriken.

    Baladh:

    Symbol: Unknown
About: Also in the Suderain. Little known except that some people worship the Light there and most people’s skin is lighter than that of the people of Turbansk’s.

    Til-Amon:

    Symbol: Unknown.
About: Surrounded by lake and mountains of Osidh Am. First Bard Nadal. Quite grey buildings, but nevertheless beautiful.

    Il Arunedh:

    Symbol: Almost certainly a rose.
About: Famed for rose gardens. In Lanorial.

    Gent:

    Symbol: I don’t think it’s mentioned.
About: Dernhil’s School, of course. Possibly speciality is writing, given that two of Maerad’s writing teachers are from there. Onion-domed. First Bard Gahal, who loves birds. In Ileadh.

    Car Amdridh:

    Symbol: Wave
About: In Amdridh – little else known.

    Busk:

Symbol: I don’t think this is mentioned.
About: School of Thorold. Speciality the art of illusion. Bards love celebration, food, and wine, and are loud and quite public in their lives. First Bard Nerili. Famous library. Steeply built, with quite gaudy buildings of marble and rose granite, and many cypress trees.

    Norloch:

    Symbol: Almost certainly white flame.
About: Centre of white flame. White, stern-looking buildings up cliff, topped by Machelinor tower. Corrupted by First Bard Enkir.

Eleve, Iledh, Arnocen, Lok, Carfedis, Culor, Zimek, Jerr-Niken – very little known apart from location. Jerr-Niken sacked shortly after Pellinor.

Also, possibly, Narn – this appears on the map as a town but it may not also be a School; that would mean Lanorial had two Schools, and I do not think it is ever mentioned in the books.

Symbols of other Schools include: the thistle, the acorn, three linked stars.

Hope that was helpful! It's certainly not an exhaustive list though.

Just wanted to congratulate Sirkana on that list! It might be not be 100% exhaustive (in that Alison could come up with more ) but it's verrrry good!

    Wow, nice!

Only two things I could add are: I think Turbansk definitely is characterised by rose-coloured stone, but also, like Busk, generally by amazing architecture - I think the central piece is a gold-covered dome? Also, I think it was stated somewhere in The Crow that Car Amdridh is an unusually large school - population slightly more than Turbansk. I may be making this up. xD

    BLING! Tha'ts so IMPRESSIVE!!!!

I'd like to add some more, though - Lirigon was secondarily or mainly specialised for its good quality clay, being so close to Lir river.

Turbansk was the centre of Light (I don't mean in terms of politics or status), with as already mentioned, huge libraries and also that Waterfall, you know, where the fish swam in the cave which Hem wanted to visit. It was hit by an earthquake produced by Juriken. Saliman's school. It followed both monarchy and Bard system, with the Queen being Har-y-tan.

Busk was another stronghold of Light (in war sense) during the Great Silence. It's a trade port and also has pretty old libraries.

I can't remember what fish you're referring to, but the caves are probably the Caves of Lamarsan. The Lamarsan sea borders Turbansk, unless I'm mistaken.

Yep, Caves of Lamarsan, which CONTAINED a waterfall if I'm not mistaken. Or possibly several waterfalls.

I think this list is taking the position of the original set-up of the world when The Gift's quest starts.

ummm... that spoiler didn't work Most people (if not all on here) have probably read The Singing, but if you could edit that...? The / has to go before the word "spoiler" in the second tag. Thanks!

Thanks, guys! All I can say is, I was just really bored . . . Anyway, I'd definitely forgotten that about the Lirigon clay and the size of Amdridh School (although the former does ring a bell)! And the other stuff you mentioned was great too - it'd be funny to make an actual proper guide sometime ...

Yeah, that's right - I didn't want to complicate it and have to involve tons of spoilers for what happens throughout the series.
