Modern Action/Adventure series?

I'm looking for a modern action/adventure series with treasure hunting similar to Indiana Jones (but more modern), Tomb Raider video games, Uncharted video games, or National Treasure movies. I would prefer it to be a series will strong character development, but not to the point that it takes away from the story/adventure.

In my research so far I've seen many recommendations for Cussler's Dirk Pitt series and have just started that, but I'm still looking for more suggestions.

Clive Cussler "Inca Gold" would fit the bill.

You could try some James Rollins or Mathew Reilly also.

I have a couple of CLIVES books look forward to reading them. Do you know if they are going to make another DIRK movie?

I just finished Cussler's Pacific Vortex, which was technically the first book of the Dirk Pitt series. It was pretty good, but the one thing that bothered me was how the "love" between Dirk and Summer kind of came out of nowhere.

If there are more Dirk Pitt movies, I really hope they recast Dirk. I enjoyed the movie Sahara, but after reading just one Dirk Pitt novel, it is obvious even to me that Matthew McConaughey is a horrible choice for the role.

I'm going to start reading the next Dirk Pitt novel, The Mediterranean Caper. I also looked into a few recommendations I received and picked up James Rollins' Sandstorm (Sigma Force Series).

Yeah, it was too funny. I laughed out loud while reading that beach scene. It was so stupid. His writing gets better as the series progresses.

You may find The Mediterranean Caper a bit silly also, but it's worth a read.

Cussler dosent hit his stride until book 8 or so, of course this is just my opinion.

I like Cussler-some of his work goes over the top, but that's part of the fun.

I liken it to an "popcorn" flicks in book form. Great to read if you don't want to think too much-and he adds some good historical stuff to the books as well

It's not part of a series, but Brad Meltzer is very good and it fits that style that you're looking for.

The beach scene is from The Caper. Sorry about the mix-up.
