Can't remember titles, only basic plot... Help?

    Hi,
There are a couple of different series that I'm trying to find. Sadly, I can't remember the titles or authors, only the basic plot. One I read a while back, the other, I saw but never got a chance to read. They are both sci-fi.
    The first:
It's set in a artificially created galaxy .The characters are all anthropomorphic animals, or something similar anyway. In the 3 book (?) a very advanced humanity shows up falsely claiming to be the creators (I think they are called Builders) but are actually their enemies (might be wrong about that).

    The second:
Various alien races seek to destroy Earth because they fear humanity. They once rebelled against a terrible galactic empire, destroying all the ruling race. But they missed one small colony, Earth. I think there was something about this having happened in cycles. Humanity rises to enslave the galaxy, and is supposedly destroyed multiple times. And the aliens seek to end the cycles. Not too sure about all of this one...

Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

My best guess for the first is Philip Jose Farmers 'World of Tiers' novels, everything seems to pretty much fit your description.

Drawing a blank on the other at the moment though, I'm afraid.

Thanks, but no, it's not World of Tiers. Though it is a good series. No, this series was, I think, written in the '90s.

Sounds quite a bit like Ringworld by Larry Niven, only the 'Builders' were 'Engineers'.

Actually, found it. It's the Confluence Trilogy by Paul J McAuley. Still can't figure out the second series though. But thanks, for the help so far.

This could be "The Ring of Ritornel" (1968) by Charles Harness, except after the war, there were no survivors on Earth. The planet Terra, now called Terror, has been towed to the center of the civilized galaxies for final physical destruction by its victorious descendents. Space itself is thin at this central point, and the great cycle of creation and destruction of universes is focused there...
