Need help remembering this book.

The story is about Earth being enshrouded in something created by an advanced intelligent life. Time within Earth is normal, but everything outside is rapidly sped up. Humans take advantage of this by using the accelerated time to terraform a nearby planet.

In the sequel—I think, it might be the same book—the aliens created a portal on Earth to another planet.

It's Spin by Robert Wilson, and the sequel is called Axis.

Good book (the first one; I've not read the sequel).
