Hey, question: Is there a posted history of SFFworld that explains how the site began, who runs it, etc.? I'd be interested to find out.

About sffworld.com
Welcome to sffworld.com, one of the largest SF and Fantasy sites on the Internet today. All run by a bunch of volunteers who invest of their spare time to make this possible. Here you can get to know a few of the people that currently makes this site possible.
Dag Rambraut
I'm the one who started the whole site as a hobby back in 1997 and over the years it has grown to be what it is today, still just a hobby by the way. The site is also run from Norway. Enjoy!

I've been hanging around here and helping out for almost 5 years now, moderating forums, writing book reviews, and interviewing authors.
This Web site, and the forum specifically, have brought me into contact with alot of great people like Dag, Gary, Mark and Sammie.
In addition to meeting some great folks, the forums are a great place to learn about different authors and books. Drop by the forums

I am an author, businessman, father and moderator here at SFFWorld. I write Epic Fantasy and I write children's books.
I am now in the middle of the fifth book in my GemQuest series. The GemQuest books, The Twins, The Awakening and The Shards will be in the stores by the first week in February. In addition, Mondo Publishing in New York City is releasing in September of 2006 the first in a series of Young Adult mysteries that I wrote last year.
I absolutely adore Science Fiction and Fantasy World. I log on every day, read the posts, moderate my own author's forum, and think about what threads I can start that might be provocative, informative and fun for everyone.
James Long
I'm James and am from Guildford in the UK. I graduated from Cardiff University with a 2.1 in History and am now in Manchester studying for an MA. My specialist area is Caribbean piracy 1715-1726. I'm a big Chelsea FC fan and like most rock music - Pearl Jam, Live, HIM, etc.
I was first introduced to fantasy by the Fighting Fantasy series. My favourite authors are Feist, Gemmell, Marco and Martin. I am currently writing a fantasy novel as well as various other shorter works.
Here at SFFworld I write official book reviews and help out with the games section, doing game reviews and collecting industry news.
My email is James_Long@hotmail.co.uk
Martin Austwick - homepage
Martin is a thirty one year old part time nurse, part time bladesmith who lives in the UK. He loves mediaeval history, hitting things with hammers, and driving too fast. He writes to try and keep the demons quiet and has even been known to have the odd thing published. If he ever grows up he.d like to be Iain Banks please.
Helen Kerslake
Can be contacted via facebook. I am on the London network.
Michael Montgomery
Matt Anderson
Matt is fresh meat for the Games section, hired on to take the load off of SFFworld's overly-prolific Games guru kater. You might see him around the forums, hiding behind the veil of Zanzibar, but don't get too close. You don't know what he'll do if he hasn't had his pudding...

Dag started the site, I think, in 1999. Over the years, various people have helped out behind the scenes, with Mark/Hobbit and myself being the most tenured members of staff. Book reviews were fairly sparse up until about 2002-ish and we've since been increasing our review output such that, on average, I'd say about one new book review per week is posted. Over the past 3 or 4 years, the official reviews that have appeared here have been blurbed with more frequency on published books.
The forums; however, is where the primary activity and reputation of the site has grown. From a membership in the hundreds to what is now tens of thousand, although with all honesty a lot of that membership includes people who never post, rarely post, or have simply moved on.
What happened on Apr. 24, 2006 to have over 700 visitors at sffworld?
That was the great BotStorm of '06.
I forgot about that. There was a time when we were having lots of bots, also. Don't remember when each of those happened...
Five years is a long time around here![]()
Don't know how to quite word it, but have you guys ever considered becoming a sort of publication of more than just reviews? For short stories and such, like Weird Tales or something.
It's come up a few times in the writing forum. Check there, but I think the ultimate result was that the legal implications would be more than we're willing to deal with.
I think the SFFWorld staff list needs updating![]()
