Malazan Power Rankings *Possible Spoilers!*

I recently read Toll the Hounds which has a lot of the Malazan "Big Players" in it, such as Karsa Orlong, Anomander Rake, Caladan Brood, Traveller

AKA Dassem Ultor

Whenever I read a Malazan book I always find myself wondering what would happen if So-and-so fought What's-his name and so on.

So I was wondering what you all think.

What would the Malazan Power Rankings look like? Who are the most powerful characters?

My off the cuff rankings:

1) Icarium
2) Caladan Brood
3) Karsa Orlong
4) Anomander Rake
5) Quick Ben

I feel like I'm forgetting more powerful characters....

Swordfighting only:
1. Anomander Rake
2. Traveller
3. Yedan Derryg
4. Tool
5. Karsa Orlong

Magic and stuff too:
1. Icarium
2. Anomander Rake
3. Draconus
4. Tayschrenn
5. Quick Ben

I tried to leave out characters that we hear about but never really see unleashed (Caladan Brood, various elder gods, etc.) Also I made that list very quickly so my mind could easily change.

Nice list. I like how you broke it down to sword fighters and magic.

I'd like to see the top Seguleh guy/girl take on Rake.

I added Brood because the dude toppled a mountain with one hammer stroke...but that's all I've seen of the guy so far.

I just love it when the Seguleh show up. I want the entire Seguleh nation against the rest of the world. I would love that spinoff.

Otherwise, you've got a really good list going.

Brys Beddict belongs on any list of sword-fighters.

Obviously Grizzin Farl ranks as number 1, but I'll leave him out of this to make it interesting.

1.Draconus
2.Rake/Osserc
3.Hood
4.Icarium
5.Raest

Raest might move up, considering he was in a very weakened state in GotM and still ****ed up everything they threw at him.
Other than that, there are still Tiam and Korabas, K'rull, Gothos, Mother Dark herself,...but I don't think we've seen enough of them yet. Maybe in later books.

QB and Tays are cool, but I wouldn't think they're anywhere near the top.

Just kidding. On a more serious note, though, isn't there going to be a Malazan RPG? That should help clarify your rankings.

Yeah, good point.

I guess we've seen more of Karsa's abilities than the other two combined, so those memories came up before that one instance. Still, I think Karsa could probably give those guys a run for their money.

Osric may belong in the top 5 but I left him out because we haven't seen him in action. I don't think I would put those others in my top 5 though. 5 is a very small number for all the badasses there are.

people put 'quick ben' in the top 5 when he isn't in the top 100, and Tayshcreen isn't in the top 10.

Lady Spite and Lady Envy are both much stronger than Tays, who is still much stronger than Quick.

Same, Kruppe might or might not be stronger than quick or Tays.

And we have seen Osric fight more than Brood.

Also, the Rope too has been shown to probably be stronger than Karsa for example, and so on.

There are people who think that by the end of the series, Quick Ben is stronger than Tays and Tays was supposed to be the strongest human. I left Brood of my list. And my list with Karsa was a sword-fighting list so that's why the Rope wasn't there.

Envy and Spite may be up there but I'm of the opinion that the old powers are overhyped and the new guys surprise them all the time.

Speaking of which, Sinn might be stronger than Tays.

of his generation, and we all know that we never have all the info.

And quick ben by the end was good, but probably still well under Tays.

so if you use a dagger you aren't in the list? <__<

the rope as as much right to be on that lsit as karsa.
