How tall is that actress - she looks like a giant? I think they can make her look pretty awkward for the show.

I'm 6' 2" - I am suddenly wondering do I look that freakish next to some lady folk. At least they got the height right - she will at least be able to convince then that she can kick some ass.
They do come in all sizes I guess. My wife and I make quite pair - she's 5'2".
So, sorry for the off topic.
I love Brienne, I do hope they get it right. There is something about her character that represents the ideal of a knight, and her struggle to live that way is fascinating.
Stannis and Melisandre have been cast.
Stephen Dillane (John Adams, King Arthur) has been cast as Stannis. Great, unexpected choice in my opinion (he was terrific as Thomas Jefferson, in John Adams).
Carice van Houten as Melisandre. I don't know her well, but she was in Sean Bean's recent film Black Death. Looks the part, to me.

Evil Agent, love both Dillane and van Houten, but I'm not sure I see them as those characters but they are good enough to pull them off. If you haven't seen van Houten in The Black Book, you should rent it. Her co-star in that, Sebastian Koch, is pretty awesome too (probably more famous for his role in The Lives of Others).
Davos Seaworth will be played by Liam Cunningham.
Maester Cressen will be played by Oliver Ford Davies.

Hmmm, I think they all fit pretty well... I always imagined Stannis as beefier, but I'm not sure the books gave me any cause for that - and I kinda doubt it given the names put forward for the role.
I had this brief fear that they wouldn't have the Onion Knight. I feel better now.
Wow really? If they had left him out I would seriously quit the show. All of these castings look pretty good to me. I imagined Davos a bit younger, not much but this makes a lot of sense seeing as he has grown sons.
I was watching Liam Cunningham in something lately (Outcasts I think) and thought he would be fantastic in Game of Thrones. I was thinking mostly the role of Stannis, but he may be a little too old to be Stannis. (Amazing that Stannis is about the same age as Jaime and Cersei. I never picture him anywhere close to that.)
So yeah, Davos works for me, and that is a great casting.
Three casting announcements (well, one, plus two confirmations of things already rumoured):
Nonso Anozie as Xaro Xhoan Daxos
Kerr Logan as Matthos Seaworth
Gemma Whelan as Yara Greyjoy (formerly Asha)
And yes, the name change is a bit daft![]()
Roy Dotrice (the voice of the ASOIAF audiobooks) has been cast as the pyromancer Hallyne. Dotrice was originally supposed to play Grand Maester Pycelle, but had to drop out for health reasons last year.
Hannah Murray (Skins) has been cast as Gilly.
