Thread: Writing Tips
October 17th, 2011, 07:10 AM #1
Hey all...I've been a silent observer on this site for a long time and I'm just now coming out the closet if you will. I've been hesitant to post because I was previously published through a small press (actually self-published as the publisher was my wife's company Ridan) but now that I've been picked up by a big-six publisher I feel a little bit legitimized, so maybe I can add to the discussions instead of just viewing.
Anyway...what's my point...oh yeah. I've been writing a regular Sunday edition on my blog on writing tips. Things I've picked up over the years. I'll but a disclaimer on this in that I'm self-taught -- in other words no MFA or even a BA...just studied and disected a lot of author's works and wrote more than a dozen novels (all throw aways) until I finally got to a level that was worth letting others see. The topics I've covered so far are:
Writing Advice (1)
Before the Basics (2)
The Who, What and Where (4)
Show and Tell (5)
Point of View (6)
Mini Stories (8)
Trusting the Reader (12)
How To Begin (15)
Making It Snow (16)
A Reason To Read (17)
Combining the Real and the Unreal(19)
Sculpting Language (20)
I hope they are a help to at least someone.

I appreciate this, very kind of you to put up those resources for new and aspiring writers. Your insight may help me as well, since, like you, I'm not an 'educated' writer.
I believe I heard your podcast with DRS as well - good stuff!
