Discounted E-Book Pricing Thread
Hi all,
I've seen a few people mentioning e-books being discounted to lower prices from time to time (particularly first books in series). Let's see if we can keep one thread with those sorts of things so people know where to go to find them. I'll kick off with one that I found last night:
Liane Merciel's The River King's Road is currently priced at $3.99 at B&N.com and Amazon.com

Kindle has Into the Dark Lands by Michelle West at 89 cents. The other three books in this series (The Sundered) are all low priced, so that the entire series is only $7.16. I wish Amazon would just go ahead and bundle them all into an omnibus at that price.

Oh hey I didn't see this.
I just bought a ton of these given I've been trawling through the bargain books section. I'll check the product pages again and link the ones still on special:
The well known authors:
Under Heaven by GGK. $8.20 (sadly this was cheaper when I got it)
Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier. $3.10
Alas, Wise Man's Fear was about $3.00 when I bought it, but it's no longer on special.
Here's the non-well known authors:
The Black God's War by Moses Siregar III. $2.95
Shatter by Elisabeth C Mock. Free
The Book of Deacon by Joseph Lallo. Free
The Silence of Trees by Valya Dudycz Lupescu. $0.95
Light of Eidon by Karen Hancock. Free
There's also a bunch of random anthologies and things, but I just listed these ones that are the first of trilogies. The Sagara's, as mentioned above, are still at a reduced price.
I'll add more as I find 'em.

A lot of these are permanent freebies of indie authors on Amazon. Not sure they are technically "discounted" in that regard, but hey, free is free. Anyway, of those you list I have reviewed Book of Deacon and Shatter on Amazon, and gave both 3 stars:
Book of Deacon: http://www.amazon.com/The-Book-of-De...y=addThreeStar (Look for Art's review)
Shatter: http://www.amazon.com/Shatter-Childr...y=addThreeStar (Look for Art's review)

Oh that makes sense then. Seems like free/really cheap e-book publishing may be the way to go for indie authors. Provided readers, like me, are willing to take the chance.

Agree about indie authors, who need to establish a reputation (they just better make sure their "free" book is worth the price if they hope for repeat customers, paying special attention to proofreading for typos and formatting errors!). I think it's also a good idea for established authors with LONG series to offer the first book of a series at a reduced price to stimulate new readership for the series.

Books 2 and 3 of Bright of the Sky are 9.59 on kindle -- seems like they are inflated to recoup the lost profit from making book 1 free. Only time I have seen this strategy. Anyway, just something to be aware of if your bargain hunting.
