    Does anybody know...?

    I recently read a book that was the first volume of a trilogy that probably won't be finished. It was about a chimpanzee with augmented intelligence who was a "witness" assigned to a woman scientist on a colonization ship. I need the name of the book and the author. I think it was written in the last 5 or 6 years by a very well known science fiction author. Can anybody help?
