    Ender's Game - 2013

Recently saw that Ender's Game will be released in 2013. Not sure if the movie has been discussed on the forum yet but I didn't see anything.

Curious what everyone thought of the casting choices that are coming together?

They all look a little old and Bean looks to be too big because that kid does not look seriously undersized. Otherwise, they look like a good match for the physical appearance of the children.

I'm getting a chuckle out of all the reporters speculating that Ender could be the next Harry Potter. It's a big stretch from the Earth based Ender's Game to the totally alien Lusitania and the Piggies eviscerating humans. I don't think the mainstream audience would get it at all.

Interesting! How they don't screw it up too badly. No chance of this being the next "Harry Potter" by the way, Ender is grown up by the time "Speaker for the Dead" takes place.

I suppose they could continue with Peter and Bean, but that storyline is more politcal thriller than action like Ender's Game.

Assuming they stick directly to the story threads, there's a large amount of room for maneuver in an adaptation.

I'll be interested to see what it looks like when they put out a trailer.

Cool that they've cast Harrison Ford as Colonel Graff. But can Ben Kingsley play Rackham without turning him into a villain? I mean, seriously, when's the last time Kingsley played a good guy? ^o^

Ooch, I'd like them to get this one right. Or...or... Well, they'll lose this one viewer. Some films you can get away with changing - Stardust for instance - the rest just turn into more fun-but-forgettable cheesey Hollywood things. In my humble opinion.

He played the title role in Gandhi; a good guy if there ever was one, but that was back in the eighties I believe so your point is well taken.

I was actually baiting people for that answer. I don't know why, though, because I'm not really interested in getting into a debate on Gandhi. The blowback I'd have to deal with just so I could shoot off a snarky, "No, no. I said a good guy" really isn't worth it.

I am having serious difficulty being excited about anything Card-related at this point. I won't even go see this movie when it comes out. Which is sad, considering Ender's Game used to be one of my favorite books.

Haven't seen Hugo yet, is he a bad guy there? He's had a variety of roles outside of blockbusters, not to mention his stage career, I'm sure he can pull off anything Hollywood will throw at him.

Ender's Game is one of the most popular SF books, read by both teens/kids and adults, including those who don't normally read sci-fi (that's where the similarity to HP books comes from). It will all come down to marketing, as in the most cases.
