I am looking for a military sci fi book were forces from different countries, like Isreal tankers, etc, are transported to a diferent world to fight aliens. it focuses on the trip, which takes years, the training, and then when they get to the planet the aliens are primitive. I read it in the 1980's and i can remember the title or author. Any ideas?

This sounds like a Michael Gear book Starstrike or such
