Saw it. I agree.
I saw "Signs" with Mel Gibson, on Amazon streaming. Its a weird sci-fi flick and isn't a FX laden, Guns Blazing, alien attack movie. The idea of a small farm family struggling through an alien invasion was pretty cool. The aliens in this are portrayed quite differently than most. It was slow and the ending was even slower, but a 3 star affair none-the-less.

I saw "Dark Tide" with Halle Berry and Oliver Martinez just now. Jaws is the best shark movie ever, but this is the best one Ive seen since. No cheezy screaming teens and silly effects. This movie has moments that are down right chilling. If you liked Jaws dont miss this one. - @WizardWyrm
I saw a pretty good Norwegian film called Headhunter recently. It's probably a little hard to find (I saw it at an 6-plex near a local university that plays independant or foreign films).
It's about an executive search consultant (Aka "headhunter") who moonlights as an art thief. He gets into trouble with one of his clients, a souless ex-Black-Ops soldier who is trying to land a key post in the security industry and needs the headhunter's recommendation. Things rapidly devolve into a very deadly game of cat and mouse. What made the film work for me was that all the main supporting characters had key roles to play, hardly any throwaway parts. It kept me hooked and didn't let up. Some nice twists and turns along the way.
Take some advice, never see Jaws with two experienced divers. They were laughing so much at the mechanical shark and shreiking "Sharks never do that" so much it spoiled the whole horror experience for me. This was right after it first came out and we went to the beach the next day. We pretty much had the ocean to ourselves. Had a great time!
For the record I thought that the first Open Water movie was pretty good. You hardly see any sharks at all put the acting was such that you could really feel the terror and the isolation.
As some of you know, my mom is taking chemo. Well, she wanted to see Ted so I had to take her. It was pretty funny. Watching my old mom reacting to that freaking dirty little teddy bear was even funnier. Silly but good. @WizardWyrm
Saw Amazing Spiderman at the cinema today. Generally better than expected, some parts very good, with the odd misstep along the way.
Still not sure why they felt they needed to make another version, but it was very good, without being outstanding.
Then watched John Carter on DVD. Not quite as epic as on the big screen, but still nicely done. There are films out there a lot, lot worse than this one, and I'm firmly of the opinion it didn't deserve the drubbing it got on its cinematic release. Still definitely worth a watch.

Simple, Mark. Because if Sony sit on the rights then they revert to Marvel/Disney, one of their biggest competitors (if not THE biggest).
I just watched The Craft, a mid-nineties teen 'horror' (hahahahahaha) movie about witches. It has Fairuza Balk (great in American History X), and I was really excited about it. It. Was. *Foghorn censor*. Very disappointed.
Watched George Pal / Byron Haskin's 1953 War of the Worlds on DVD for the first time (after only having seen it on VHS before). The colour was stunning. I just love three strip Technicolor!
Ah, one of my old favourites, JM. Real 'wet-Sunday-afternoon' watching....
