    February 2012 Flash Fiction Contest

Happy February, everyone! It's a grim month but at least it's short, right?

I've noticed a slight dropoff in entries over the last couple months, so if you've never entered a flash contest here before, or you haven't entered one in awhile, then jump aboard! We're very friendly, I promise.

This month's theme is Fairytales and Folklore, which you may interpret and twist to your heart's desire. Strict 1,000 word limit as usual, and all entries are due by 11:59 PM EST on February 25, 2012. Post stories in the Stories subforum and link back here so we can see them!

    Happy writing! (sticky please?)

Last February there were more than thirty entries. Now that was fun!

Yay, I´m in. Love the theme, right up my alley. Nordic folklore is a great interest of mine and right now I´m teaching "my" 7th-graders about fairytales.

EDIT: I´m not in as in having written a story yet but I´m in as in "I will write a story this month".

It's kind of weird how I saw this thread and just out of nowhere this little story came to me. Bit early perhaps to be submitting, but what the heck. I'll probably regret it when something else comes to mind. And now I have to wait a whole 'nother month for the next time

Anyway, my entry, A Dirge from Dirgewater. Dissect at will.

That's why I stopped participating! Reading all those entries... Just too much.

Congrats, Robo on your win and I'll try to pull something together for this contest.

The contest yo-yo's over it's life. In the begining it was 4-5 then up to ten, then down again. Thirty was the highest though. I just popped back in and was shocked how low its at now.

I have the start of something! But, hit a mental snag I need to work out. I really am liking it though. I am not 100% about theme adherence but I think I can sell it.

    Cheers.

Untangled a snerl! Now I am about halfway home - introduced my characters to each other. Now they got to dance.

Ug. I haven't gotten a clue for this one. All I can think of are the militarized fairies that...dope! can't remember the author's name!...someone submitted a year ago? or so? Semper Fi? Excellent story, can't believe I forgot the title and author...I haven't seen him around lately...his fault for not being here...

Or does anyone remember SuperFede's human eating fairies? (shudder)

    Okay...those two should inspire something...

I've started writing . . . Something. I don't know what it is yet, it feels like a fairy tale though it isn't directly inspired by any fairy tale that I can think of. I might be able to make something of it.
