Finished reading them all today. My votes go to:

    Om's Day by Merik7

    In Akasumi's Garden by Slynt

I'm utterly useless when it comes to giving feedback but I know you folks don't write these stories for nothing, so I'll see what I can do.

I've just realised that we have a FF piece that was not included in the original thread and was missed from the voting. I've added it now and you can find it here:

I've now read everyone's entries. I'm not even sure which ones I would have voted for if I wasn't running this thing. All very different and very interesting pieces of FF. I only hope all the newcomers this month inspire others to have a go

First vote has to go to
    Decisions
This to me seems to be the best example of how much can actually be accomplished in a thousand words or less. Every sentence was filled with information, painting a perfect picture of the scene as well as coloring the emotions of the character. Not exactly the happiest theme I've read and the conflict could have been deeper. I mean I have had bad breakups before too but if your writing spec fiction you could get a bit more creative with your characters motivation for suicide. Concepts aside though, the composition was nearly flawless. Great writing.

Second vote is a bit tougher. It came down to a choice between The (Other) Hound of Culann and In Akasumi's Garden
The first definitely pulled me in more, helping me to feel the frustrations of the young MC as well as ending with a bit of levity, being caught with the dead hound.
The second was a story with some really great imagery and I loved the theme. In a short story or a novel I would have eaten through pages for more but in the confines of a flash fiction it felt too abbreviated.

In the end I have to go with In Akasumi's Garden. Although your idea was a bit too big for flash fiction, you used the space allotted to draw me in and leave me wishing for more.

That's it everyone! The votes are in and they have been counted. This month's winner of the SFFWorld Flash Fiction Contest is...

    Om's Day by Merik7!

Congratulations to our deserving winner who put together a really nice piece of writing. The competition was tough and the votes were very close (final scores below). I almost thought we would end up with a 3-way tie I really enjoyed running the contest for the first time and it was really nice to see so many entries. Not only that, but they were all of a really high standard. Nice work

Now get the April contest up and running so I can write some flash fiction again

Thank you all! There were so many excellent stories last month, that I'm a little gobsmacked as to how I won.

Out of curiosity, who would you have voted for?

Looking forward to this month's contest/entries!

Sorry for not voting this month. I probably would have voted for the Other Hound of Culan, in retrospect. I'll definitely be more involved this month.
