He he...um...yeah...well, here's what I came up with.
It's crappy, but there it is. Read/comment/tear it apart.
Oh, warning: adult material.

Here's mine. I'm not sure what the rules are about using characters from other contest stories, but I've been reading a lot of Robert E. Howard (again) lately and I'm currently obsessed with Solomon Kane and this is an origin story for the witch hunter I introduced in "Trumped" for the flash fiction contest a few months back.
Anyway, Sowing the Seeds of Hate.
Woke up extremely early this morning (actually it was still night I guess - four in the morning) and decided to see if I could get something done on my writing. And I did. Really, it was so much better writing all alone in the quietude of dawn, only problem now I'm sooo tiredHope I can finish this thing, I've finally found a shape to my story.
Here is Mine. 8,937 words.
We Have Been Rip Van Winkled!

Almost time... not much longer to go. I'll have to get a wriggle on and start reading! (It doesn't help that we just moved houses and have spent the last 2 weeks without the net... I've just joined my local library today to get a bit of a net fix!). Keep your fingers crossed for me, Telstra is supposed to sort out our connections today - now dealing with telcos... that's scary!
Looking forward to delving into all of your scary thoughts!

And hell yeah AZimmer23. Robert E. Howard was the man. I'd say his stories partly inspired my submission too.
Shameless plug alert.
If you haven't noticed, we are having a forum anthology contest. Our very first entries are up and ready to be read. Three talented writers will be chosen by forum members to be included in an anthology we are putting together (check it out here). If you have some spare time, check 'em out!
Please go here for a list of the entries and to vote.
This is going to be a close race. Rewrote the entire second attempt (so now I'm on my third attempt), narrowing things down, upping thematic flavor (hopefully), reducing number of characters, trying to get things said with less words, trying to make it interesting enough, oh my. Hope I can make it, spent all Saturday evening writing instead of doing something, well, more Saturday evening-like. It's fun though, I suppose.
Whew, I got it in. All day I believed this was the last day but now I realize I could have spent another day polishing it
Oh well, here it is (I did something wrong while posting, so the thread title doesn't include the complete title of the story).
The Foreboding Presage
I am grateful for any comments, I know it's a somewhat long read, but hopefully it has entertainment value for someone. Now off to read![]()
It's the 25th of June... well, at least where I am. Any last minute entries? Poll will be up tomorrow!
6 entries (if I've missed one, let me know). Voting is here. Good luck!
