    Dredd

Later this year, Dredd is coming out.

Based, perhaps obviously, on world-famous British comic anthology 2000AD's regular and highly-popular Judge Dredd comics. Karl Urban of... uh... some fame is cast as Judge Dredd and lesser-known actress Olivia Thirlby is cast as Judge Anderson (a character who, like Dredd, has numerous solo stories).

(Thirlby & Urban, and yes, I know Urban doesn't quite look right as Dredd in it)

Anyway, decided to start this topic now as the marketing is starting to ramp up and I saw an image that I had to share, and you can find it here, on the 2000AD tumblr.

I can't help but notice how small Anderson is next to Dredd.

Really, really excited about this film. I cannot wait to see it!

    Wait, he was in them?

I just know he's been in a lot of B-movies, or B-movie-esque films.

Doom had an awesome 'first person' segment.

But I'll take the B-movie point out, I had no idea he was a supporting actor in so many films.

Dredd also looks like he's an eight-year-old kid wearing an adult-sized helmet. I haven't read the comic in years, but his costume looks very little like the one I remember; has it changed that much?

Still, they would have to try hard to be worse than the Stallone movie.

They've definitely changed the costumes. There are recognisable stylistic elements - namely the helmets and badges (and I agree about Dredd's helmet looking too big!) - but they appear to have gone for less stylised armour in lieu of something more immediately practical.

This is the style you mean, yes?

In the comics, it's very much the same as it was. Obviously things will have changed, but the armour of the Judges is basically the same.

Actually, now I look more closely at that picture I can see the badges and shoulder pads are there, just toned down compared to the over-the-top size they use in the comic.

I hope they're going to CG his chin though, it doesn't look big enough .

Ohmigosh ohmigosh ohmigosh! It's Trailer Day in Mega-City One!

    Watch the trailer here

    It's drokking awesome.

Well, I think stylistically it's based on Dredd with its little flourishes, but it also looks like they've toned it down a lot - it seems much more sensible in what the judges are wearing, and so on. It's different enough to stand on its own and to perhaps distance it from the comics, but recognisable enough for you to know what it is.

But yeah, really excited for this now!

It does look rather splendid, doesn't it?

    (Apart from that helmet).

Looks better in motion than in stills. I loved the Stallone movie, but this could be good too. Stallone's movie aimed more for humorous while this one looks much more serious.

You know that trailer was actually pretty cool. I especially liked the Mass Effecty sounding music. I have some pretty serious doubts but I will give it a watch sometime.
