It would just be nice if they had that little extra umph.

Of course for all I know most epic fantasy is PG-13, I really have no idea. Like so many people in the last five years I got turned onto fantasy through ASOIAF. So I'm still a newbie. I might of gone too dark and too gritty right out of the gate.
I don't know. I think Sanderson staying PG-13 would be fairly refreshing in a market with big authors like Abercrombie, Martin, Morgan, Erikson and so on.

Sanderson might very well be the next Terry Brooks.

Started Shayna Krishnasamy's first novel Home yesterday. A blind young woman sets out to bring a mysterious young boy who doesn't talk home. Only she doesn't know where his home is. The premise was intriguing, so I decided to give it a shot. I'm only a third of the way through it, but this far, I'm thinking maybe she tackled a little too much. As one can imagine, there isn't much dialogue due to the fact that one of the characters is mute. And when we're being told the story from the blind woman's point of view (third person limited) we don't get much description, because, she can't see. When we do get description it's from the boy's point of view, and he's only around the age of six.

I think it's a very ambitious project for someone's debut novel. I don't think she's really pulled it off. There could be a lot more playing with other senses to give description. Also, it'd be nice to see the descriptions and detail to be more skewed by a six year old's perception of things. It's still fun, though. It's just starting to really pick up, so I'll see how it goes.

    Potentially producing more than either.

Or the next Robert Jordan, indeed, although many forget to include the works Jordan didn't do under his pseudonym.
