How do you want us to vote? We normally do this as a "poll" thread - do you want us to just post who we're voting for?

Yeah, I think with eight stories, this may be easier done as a poll thread.

Stories read, feedback left, vote cast. There wasn't a single one that I didn't like, good job everyone!

All right, I've read all the stories and left a comment, and my conclusion is, after some thought, that there are two stories that really stick out, and those are "Idle Mind" by Wulfen and PeteMC's "Closing Down". I'll re-read them both before I make up my (idle) mind.

I also did end up voting for your story, Idle Mind. Mostly because PeteMC already has four votes, and since I enjoyed both stories equally...well, what can I say, always liked supporting the underdog. Not calling you a dog or anything, mind.

Thanks Slynt. I voted for Pete's story as well, although all the stories were really well done.
My wife calls me much worse, I'm sure.

Hey everybody,
I've been gone a while from the forum, but decided to pop in and see how the short/flash fiction comps are going.
As usual, plenty of engaging stories, but I had to vote for Pete's. Efficient, concise and with unobtrusive prose, you nailed it with this one.
Wulfen's story is my choice for a close second, but the POV switches, while perfectly understandable, were unusual enough to be jarring. I get that it was an exercise and that it managed to work, but, for me, the overall quality of the piece suffered for it.
Good job, everyone! (It's nice to see some new-to-me participants, too. 'Welcome and here's hoping you'll all continue contributing.)

I voted for Last Rights because I really liked the story. The execution needs a bit of work, but the story is a good one. Run with it!
