Er... Avatar is three years old... and the Deathly Hallows films are two and one years old, respectively.
Oh wait. I've been tricked by spam, haven't I?
I should've realised when someone had Tranformers and Resident Evil in a 'Best of Year' list.
Silly Solaar.

I ran down my top ten for the year so far on my blog back in mid-summer:
1. The Grey
2. The Cabin in the Woods
3. Moonrise Kingdom
4. The Avengers
5. Jeff, Who Lives at Home
6. Brave
7. Chronicle
8. Haywire
9. John Carter
10. Ted
Since then, I'd say ParaNorman and Looper have worked their way into the conversation.
(No reason a good thread can't come from the foiled work of spammers!)

I liked the Grey but I can't pass by people commenting about it without pointing out that electrical tape doesn't work for **** in the cold. I'm saying this as a public service, whatever the Grey might have led people to believe, any plan that relies on the efficacy of electrical tape in an arctic climate is doomed to failure. Also the part right after the crash was the scariest part of the movie for me, and there's no damn way those guy would be walking around with their coats open at any point ever. There aren't many dudes who do that in the winter around here and this is a whole different ball game than the arctic.

1. DREDD
2. SKYFALL
3. AVENGERS
4. DARK KNIGHT RISES
5. PROMETHEUS
All seen in 2D. Didn't like Spiderman and not seen The Hobbit yet. I encourage those who haven't seen Dredd to catch it when it's released dvd/bluray mid Jan [ uk date ]. Skyfall is one of the best ever Bond films.

I don't know what year The Raid: Redemption came out in but that's my top-ten list for that entire year. Holy crap. I could go into detail but it's easiest just to say it's pretty much the perfect action movie. Assuming the Raid came out some other year my list for this year... well I haven't seen lots of movies but DKR, Avengers, Brave, The Hobbit were all really good, I've been wanting to see Wreck-it Ralph but I don't think I'll be able to catch it in theaters.
