I thought I'd post in to promote the blogging activity of an online acquaintance of mine: every October a brave and dedicated lone-hero-type engages in 31 days of horror read-and-reviewing. In past years it's been entertaining stuff whether the reviews have been positive or not, and I've bought more than a few novels and short story collections as a result of reading The Kind of Face You Slash. He does it for the love of the genre, so if you feel the same way you could do a lot worse than dipping in.
