Looking for book with Halflings Wolf Mage and True name weapons
Im looking for an older book part of a trilogy " I THINK "about halflings that are taken on an adventure by a mage who turns into a wolf and later on theres a spearman that has a magical spear that when he says it "true name" it burns those it touches... there were also creatures who could project dread ie fear onto people

Sounds vaguely like a poorly recalled version of Journeys of the Catechist by Alan Dean Foster. That was only written ~10 years ago though.

The elements you describe sound like they might be at home in one of Dennis McKiernan's Mithgar books (of which there are several), but I've only read the first in that series, so this is a bit of guess and a long shot at that.
