[BUMP]
Another old thread re-emerges!
All I'd say there Mono is that I hope you enjoy it, but they get better, IMO. There are parts of Revelation Space that to me were a little longer than they needed to be, and the characterisation was a little bland. But for a first book it's very good.
I'm looking forward to the arrival of Century Rain, which sounds like something a little different from Alastair - a more contemporary time travel story. Should arrive soon.

The first fifty pages have hooked me.
Spoiler:
The sequence where Ilia is pushed down the elevator shaft is brilliant.
November 17th, 2004, 06:13 PM #19Darn these spoiler tags! They're irresistible!
I looked up Century Rain, sounds interesting, but can't find a U.S. release date (looks like it extended beyond this month?)Last edited by intensityxx; November 17th, 2004 at 06:24 PM.

Yeah, I can only find a release date of November 25th at Amazon.com; and as it's the Gollancz release, I suspect that's the UK version. (and let's not forget that Amazon can be a little optimistic with it's release dates!)I looked up Century Rain, sounds interesting, but can't find a U.S. release date (looks like it extended beyond this month?)
That does mean that I should get my copy soon, though as I've preordered a signed copy, it could take a little longer. Nevertheless, here in time for Christmas!

November 17th, 2004, 07:19 PM #21Oh, so you mean there isn't a U.S. release planned yet? I forgot you're from the U.K. (I always forget to check where people are from, mainly because they usually put something else in that field anyway).

LOL... one of the joys of this Forum for me is that we are such a global mix, though those time zones can be a real problem.....forgot you're from the U.K. (I always forget to check where people are from, mainly because they usually put something else in that field anyway).
I've had a look at Al's website and can't see anything there either, I'm afraid.
(and incidentally, did you know he's a British writer working in the Netherlands?!)
But I'm sure it won't be long.

Notice how all the websites have the wrong cover displayed for Century Rain? The cover seems to be the the Greatest American Mystery Short Stories or something like that.

For those who haven't seen it THIS is supposedly the cover of the UK edition.

Yes, intesity, it seems something strange is going on. The picture I get is the cover for The Best American Mystery Stories edited by Michael Connelly. But then when I go to post the picture here it comes up as the proper cover. The same thing happens on the Orion/Gollancz publishers site. Is this happening to anybody else?
EDIT: Just removing the picture.Last edited by Monosylabik; November 18th, 2004 at 05:53 PM.

Also, Amazon.co.uk says for me that Century Rain is only 111 pages long. Either that's a mistake or Reynold has overreacted to criticisms about the flabbiness of his books.

OOh... technical problems!
I get what you see, Mono for the HB but not for the Trade Paperback, which is the usual UK cover
(And I'm being told 670 pages, which I guess is a 'na na'
for the critics!
)
