Actually, I would have to say "Blair Witch Project" was the most disturbing, even though by the time I saw it I had learned it was faked.
My son, who was in high school at the time, came home from seeing it quite shaken.....this was before we had learned about the ruse......he dubbed it the most frightening thing he;d ever seen. So I think I was affected by his initial assessment.
"Silence of the Lambs" was very disturbing, as was "Seven."
But I like both of those films and the stars in them and would watch them over and over.

Hmmmm disturbing eh? Here's a few:
Happiness
2nd vote for Henry:Potrait of a Serial Killer
Nekromantik
Audition (the things a hot woman can do with a needle and someone's eye....)
Kids (one of the few movies where I actually wished I could find the principle actors and beat them to death with my own hands because they were so reprehensible)
Boxing Helena
I'll try to come up with a few more goodies soon...

December 20th, 2003, 11:29 AM #34I felt that way working with one of them on set--and not because I'd ever seen Kids, but because he was just a lousy actor...Kids (one of the few movies where I actually wished I could find the principle actors and beat them to death with my own hands because they were so reprehensible)

I thought Happiness was a great movie, but I would never watch it again. It was unsettling in a lot of ways, yet at the same time, had some genuinely funny parts. A movie that left me with some very confusing emotions.

Yeah Bear I agree "Happiness" was a very well done and oft funny film, but it's the exact sense of "What the bleep did I just watch?" that you get afterwards that makes it disturbing.
Another pick for the list:
Salo (REALLY unpleasant themes in this one)

Just actually posted a thread about world cinema movies, so added a few of them in here too - no particular order :-
Romper Stomper, set in with a younger skinheaded Russell Crow
Once were warriors
Irreversible, as someone mentioned is a heavy film indeed
Dark City - not foreign, could be disturbing, but i thought it was brilliant! I thought Vanilla Sky was pretty weird too. Also thought in the mouth of Madness was great.
Battle Royale - kids killing kids!
Ring series - The originals, not the USA
Amores Perros - a Spanish pulp fiction type movie
La Haine - Life on a tough French council estate
Funny games
Chopper

The Eye - japanese horror about a woman who loses her sight and has someone else's eyes implanted, whats seen through the eyes was enough to scare the sh!t out of me and I'm an avid horror fan.

Anyone seen Ichi the Killer? Considered by many to be the most graphic and disturbing movie ever made. The plot sounds pretty cool to me, but I'm a pushover when it comes to gore, so I probably will never see it.

I've also seen Ichi the Killer - my brother owns it and sure it was utterly gory and at times grisly but I always find that stuff I can deal with, its more the pyschological horror which the japanese seem to specialise at, that defines 'disturbing' for me.

January 21st, 2004, 11:59 AM #45Was that the one about the clown? If so yes - pretty darn disturbin film as I've always thought there was something strangely sinister about them, particularly the evil ones!Originally posted by Frostmourne

The Exorcist 1 & 2 stick out in my mind as being the most disturbing. The music gave it a frightening credibility and I've been scared of big black dogs ever since.
