Can anyone give this Dutchman an idea of what this series is about and what it is a spin-off of? I hope they'll show this here eventually, but a lot of Sci-fi series are just so horrible, even with today's cinematic technology, I don't know if this one has any chances. More recently, Farscape, Andromeda and some other series with a young guy as the captain of a small space ship and his crew have really failed to impress.

Stargate Atlantis is a spinoff from Stargate SG-1. The race of Ancients that built the Stargates left information behind that indicated where their original home was........Atlantis, the lost city, but on another planet in another galaxy.

A team of SGC personnel led by Dr. Elizabeth Weir have gone through the Stargate to Atlantis to explore, make new contacts, etc. They are settling into the lost city, learning to use the technology left behind by the Ancients, and discovering a fierce enemy called the Wraith.......the enemy that drove the Ancients away from Atlantis in the first place.

And Stargate SG-1 is itself a "spin-off", of the movie Stargate, starring Kurt Russel and James Spader. I believe Stargate SG-1 is in it's eighth season.
(I recently picked up the Season 1 DVD set Stargate SG-1 to catch up. It's great!)

I have the first three seasons on DVD, but don't really have enough money to buy the rest....I'll accept donations though.

Another decent episode with Mckay providing the laughs.

Dr. Weir is getting very annoying though. I don't care for her character at all.

I do like Tayla however, and hopefully future shows will allow her character to grow.

The bad news is that this show, after a few more new episodes, is going off the air until January, when it will conclude the season.

Up to episode 5/6 (depending on if you class the season opener as a single or double episode ) and while I think it great they are doing story lines to develop most of the characters I would like to see a little more action and a little more of the Wraith.

The episode where they are trapped in the Stargate was quite good and started showing some of the other background characters and is one of the few episodes so far where Dr. Weir gets to do more than say hello and good bye to the team. The latest episode (Childhood) was alright... I suppose they are trying to expand the this universe a little!

Kanin - how come they are taking it off air? Is it not doing to well? Hope the show doesn't get cancelled already! Had to many shows that I just start getting into only for them to be cancelled after one season. Damn reality TV!

I missed the last one because my power was out, and is still out, hopefully it won't be out this Friday. Stupid hurricane.

I haven't heard an official reason, but my guess is that they are taking some time off so they can produce more new episodes.

It's nice to have a new episode every week, instead of a new episode every 3 weeks or so. I think they'll get a bunch done and then start again in January.

Guessed that might have been the reason... on the offical site there are only a handful of episodes.
Do not get new episodes every week normally with a new season of a show?

    Atlantis

Cancel? It's the number one show on friday nights besides sports. 4.2 million people watched the pilot episode and continue watching it, if news gets around about how good this show is maybe even people who do not normally like Sci-Fis will watch it. It might end up being one of the biggest shows.

The show is now officially on hiatus here in the States until January. It's been part of their plan all along to have this break.

It's been a big hit here in the States as well. Hope we see as many seasons as SG-1!!!!!!
