Finished edits on 2nd Draft of 3rd book... Scions of the Shade. Will be submitting it to my publisher by end of week, just need to write synopsis and editorial outline. Crossing my fingers that they like this one.

The Ninth Avatar is still getting a bit of attention. Someone created at topic for it here on the boards, but since it still doesn't have that many reviews/reads, I think people are reluctant to take a chance on my debut work.

Good luck with that. It would be rare for any publisher to turn down a book in a series unless you got yourself really really sloppy.

Thanks Kerry. Actually Scions is a standalone, though. When I said 3rd book, I just meant "my" third book.

(I am writing a prequel and sequel to Ninth Avatar as my next project, though!)

Oh, and just hit send on the email. The editorial outline didn't take nearly as long as I thought, and I decided it better to send on a Monday than a Friday. It is ready to be read.

I am a horrible, horrible writer. LOL I'm sticking to my prequel just so that I can finally say I finished something, but it's very bad. In the past the only way I have ever been able to finish anything longer than a short story was by writing straight through 8-10 hours in one sitting. I have only been able to do that a few times.

I am quite proud of myself that I have so far written a total of 32 scenes over a (I don't know how long of a period, but I will say 3 weeks?)
My biggest problem is that I did zero planning ahead of time. I just sit down and write the scene of the day. So that's why it doesn't make a lot of sense.
I allowed myself one reboot, and am now at the place where I rebooted back then. I can't do that again or I will never finish.

So if anyone is reading, and saying this is the worst piece of garbage I have ever read, realize I do understand, and that this really is practice for me. Practice with accountability, as it is the only thing preventing me from throwing in the towel right now.

I have tried planning novels out ahead of time. I have so many detailed story outlines out there, but I never wrote any of them. So even though my work is drek, I am still further than I have ever gotten. I think it's possible it could get better with Much revision though. At least I can hope.

Of course you'l get better. Practice makes better (not perfect, I don't think anything makes that!). And you're probably nothing like as bad as you think you are anyway - most people I've read who are really bad think that they're brilliant... you could always post some stuff up on here if you want some constructive crit?

Wait, what are you writing a prequel to if you haven't finished anything??

    My work in progress

I see this site hasn't been visited in a while, but what the heck. I'll share what I'm doing lately.
I'm back at work on chapter 13 of the sixth book in my Portals (fantasy/detective) series. This is after a couple of weeks hiatus on account of not having a computer to work on - and wondering if I still had a manuscript or would have to start everything over. I was four or five pages into the chapter when my old Acer died. (Made me wonder if I should've just skipped chapter 13 and gone right to 14 ...)
Anyway, I have a new laptop (yea!) and - best news of all - all of Book 6, including Chapter 13, could be retrieved (bigger yea!).
So I'm back in business, the gods of technology are smiling on me, and my world is a happy place. (At least until something else goes awry, which I'm hoping will be never ...)
I have a love/hate relationship with technology. It's wonderful when it's working the way it's supposed to, and when it isn't ...

I've been interested in writing for a VERY long time, but only recently began to actually write. It seems I've caught the bug. When I'm not writing, I'm thinking about what to write. I just recently began my first story, and I'm liking what I have so far. It is a horror story and I think I've got a pretty good idea with it. It certanly needs edited, but that will wait.

I also have a sci fi horror story planned that I wrote a small prologue to today. I can't wait to get further into that one.

I've got a hard science fiction lined up also. This one will almost certainly be multiple novels and I can't wait to start it. It's a very big and ambitious project, though, and I want to make sure I get it right so I'm waiting till I feel more confident in my work.

I have several other projects in various stages of planning. I just wish I was better at plotting and outlining my stories before I get started writing.

I do have the entire thing posted on this site on my blog, and I just finished it today. Have a look if you like Pete.

I finished the first draft anyway. If you do look only read the ones that say Dreamtruth and have numbers in the titles. The earlier ones that say Truth or Dream, and have words in the titles, are from the unfinished first draft of my first draft, and are actually quite different from Dreamtruth.

I pasted it all together into my word processor and at the end of 18 (actually 19 posts) it came out to 23 typewritten pages with a total of 16,7775.

I'm not quite sure what one would call that, is it even long enough to be a novella? Perhaps it's simply the first part of a longer book, I don't know. And it will either get longer or shorter in revison. I left out a lot of details, so probably longer. (shrugs)

To the poster who asked what it's a prequel to it's a prequel to a much longer story that I would one day like to tell, but haven't yet. Perhaps prequel is the wrong word to use . . . Perhaps, the beginning?

I did like the ending. Yesterday I was wondering if my story had comedy potential but then it went and got all serious on me again. It's basically a train wreck, but one that leaves you thinking you kind of had fun at the end. At least if you are the engineer. I can't speak for the passengers.

    Kick A Little Butt!

Now that I (hopefully) have your attention, that is the title of my new story in which an arrogant would-be hero tries to punish his ill behaved (and sexy) warrior slave only to inadvertently discover a new enemy. Enjoy!

Right, I read it all this morning. First up, you're not a horrible writer. Sure it's a bit muddled in places, and could use some revision, but you already know that. You've actually got a cracking good idea there, I like the premise a lot.

You said you wrote it on the fly with no planning, which was kind of ambitious for a story that complicated to be honest. If I can suggest something, how about you re-read it and write a plot outline based on what's already there. Then revise the plot outline to make the muddled bits clearer, then revise the story based on the outline - make sense?

It's somewhere in no man's land between a short story and a novella at the moment I would have said, but it could easily be the first three or four chapters of a novel. There's obviously a lot more story in your head, after all.

Can't say I saw comedy in it really. Even the blackest tale usually has some lighter moments to stop the reader suffering doom-fatigue, which is a good thing.

Anyway, its definitely got promise, stick with it mate!

You are amazing, Pete. I can't believe you actually read the whole thing.

And you really found the premise interesting? I'm not actually asking since I know you said you did, I am simply echoing because I'm still in shock.

What about it did you like?

Were there any parts you think I should leave out in revision?

Any particular questions you want answered?

Did you like any of the characters?

Thanks for the idea on the outline. I'll have to try that.
