You all are probably going to think I'm wierd for this, being the big X-Men fan that I am and all, but as much as I loved The Dark Phoenix Saga graphic novel and the animated adapted version, I found it a little disturbing/unsettling. I can't exactly put my finger on exactly what I found disturbing about the Dark Phoenix Saga, maybe it was the fact that Jean Grey possessed enormous dark cosmic powers beyong the conception of mankind.
Also, I seemed to find the Hellfire Club very unsettling and somewhat creepy. Don't ask me why, I've been trying to figure that one out for years! Also, another part in the Dark Phoenix Saga that freaked me out was when the Dark Phoenix was flying through the cosmos and all of the sudden, behind her, for about two seconds, appeared this giant, wierd-looking cosmic god-like thing. When I saw it I was like "What the heck is that?!!"
Another part that disturbed me in the Dark Phoenix Saga was when Jean and Cyclops went in to that seedy discotheque. All those people in there looked really freaky, like they just broke out of prison or something. On top of that, (and I know you guys are probably gonna laugh at me for this, but for some reason, discotheques disturb me. They have ever since I was little. I don't know why, but I just find something unnerving and freaky about that lighted dance floor. Oh well, we all have our strange little phobias don't we?
Oh, one more thing. When I was little, allthough I absolutely loved this cartoon, I found the Muppet Babies to be somewhat disturbing at times, and I don't know why in the heck I did!

I was really creeped out by Courage the Cowardly Dog. Just the thought of living in a house in the middle of Nowhere....

Yeah, I hear ya. Courage the Cowardly Dog can get pretty disturbing sometimes. The episode that I found especially disturbing was (I may be a bit off on the title) "Return of the Killer Chickens from Outer Space" where the chickens were trying to rip the heads off of people with toilet plungers. **SHUDDER**

    Ditto, big time.
I cannot believe my kids will sit in front of the TV and watch that show, when my first (second, third, etc. etc) reaction is to run from the house screaming. Cat-dog does the same thing to me. When I can breathe again I think, 'I can come up with something better than that.' and I spend the next three days typing like a mad fool.

You know, I recently found out by researching on the internet that the cartoon I talked about earlier, "Felix the Cat in Bold King Cole" was aired on the Captain Kangaroo show once without his consent. It caused such a stir of controversy and disturbance from parents and kids that were scared by it that the good Captain got "hopping mad" (pun intended) at his people and pulled the toon off the air. Now Bold King Cole can be found in classic cartoon collections everywhere and no one has said a word about it.
You probably all want to know what Bold King Cole was about and why it disturbed me so much, well, I tell you, but it's no picknick for me to relive it!
Bold King Cole starring Felix the Cat is of course a play on words to the nursery rhyme Old King Cole. It starts out with our cute and cuddly hero Felix playing a fiddle and singing some song with a bird. Suddenly, a thunderstorm hits and the skies darken and rain starts to fall. Felix gets pretty pissed off that a thunderstorm could happen on such a nice day and flees into the nearby forest for shelter. Suddenly, a lightning bolt strikes his nose and it begins to glow, and he's like "What the hell?!" (this is my version of the language in the cartoon, this is not how the language was of course, I mean c'mon it was made in 1945! ) Anyway, Felix makes his way through the forest to a dark and foreboding castle and knocks on the door.
Inside the castle you see fat, jovial King Cole sitting on his throne with a bunch of his servants, nobles and regents in his court. Bold King Cole looks quite hillarious, with a big fat belly (yes, when he laughs it does wriggle like jelly ) a big red nose, rosy cheeks, and a tiny crown, complete with the royal robes and all, of course. All his people get scared when the knocking starts at the door and hide under the red carpet that leads up to the throne's dais. And Cole's like "Well, somebody get the freakin' door!". The nobles are still all shivering under the carpet. King Cole balls them out for being such cowards and he's finally like, "Fine! You bunch of yellow bastards! I'll get the door myself! I'm not afraid of anything!"
King Cole then gits up and lifts up his ample paunch, like a lady in the old times wold pick up her long dress over her feet to walk, and moves towards the door. This scene is rather funny.
Finally Cole open the door and welcomes the soaked little feline in. Cole happily introduces himself as does Felix and then Felix starts bitching about the horrible weather. "Oh that" Cole laughs, "There's nothing to fear about that! It's just thunder and rain! Take me for example, I'm not afraid of anything! Ho! Ho! Ho!"
While the fat old king brags on about himself being so courageous, you see the pictures on the walls in the great hall of the castle's deceased occupants (such as old kings of the past, nobles, regents, counts, barons, knights, mages, soldiers, etc.) begin to move and start talking to one another.
"The old braggart's gone on long enough boasting and bragging and boasting and bragging!" complains a knight, "I myself am freakin' tired of it."
"Yeah!" agrees a Merlin mage-like guy with a beard down to his toes. "I say we pump the wind out of the old windbag!"
All the castles ghosts agree with each other and go after King Cole and Felix. The is a scene where the ghosts chase Cole and Felix through the halls of the castle, and I must admit that cole runs pretty fast for a fat little guy. Eventually they catch up with Cole and grab him. Felix they could care less about, so they let him go. Felix secretly follows behind. The ghosts carry the King down to the dungeon, all the while singing this eerie little diddy that goes like "You boast too much! You brag too much! You never shut up! You brag too much!"
Once they get him into the torture chamber, there is this nasty looking torture device that consists of a table with straps and an apparatus above it that has two big iron balls attached to poles that go into the device and a hose coming out of the device. (Okay, you can all get your minds out of the gutter, I'm not talking about those balls and hoses! )
Standing by it is a tall, lanky ghost in a surgeon's suit. The ghosts all strap
Cole down. Cole is too terrified of them to try to wriggle out of the situation. Then the ghosts say to the surgeon ghost "Yo dude! Start er up!"
The ghost then turns this huge wheel about three times and sticks the hose in Cole's mouth. The balls then start pounding on Cole's fat stomach and you see the wind coming out of him through the hose. All the while the ghosts are singing that accursed little diddy and pointing at him and laughing at him. The balls keep pounding on his ample gut until he is as thin as a beam pole, proving I guess that his stomach was made of air, not fat. The whole process looks excruciatingly painful. They then wheel the table around and set it straight up, and begin making fun of Cole.
Felix, hiding in one of the rooms next door finds out that since lightning struck him, he can now shoot lightning from his fingertips. He rushes into the torture chamber and goes all Darth Sidious on the ghosts killing them with his lightning bolts. He releases Cole from his straps and Cole goes over and sucks the wind back in him from the hose in the torture device, which is kind of funny and thanks Felix and Felix and him both declare that they are fearless.
The thing that disturbed me most about this toon was the wind extraction scene with the torture device. I'll never forget it, it still gives me nightmares to this day. It's funny how dark fantasy and horror books don't disturb me as much as this old cartoon does!

Well, Ren and Stimpy is pretty disturbing in it being really grose. Cow and chicken doensīt botter me that much and I have to admit I liked Courage the Cowerdly Dog when we still had Cartoon network here. But what really disturbs me is The Happy Tree Friends. I first saw it when my brother called; Come take a look at this, itīs hilarious! I see cute little bunny walking around ( a pink! bunny) I see sweet squirl picking up a stick and hitting cute bunny, who flies a couple of yards and falls in between a bunch of wolf traps. Blood all over!! Itīs SICK! I canīt believe anyone would even think of something like that not to mention think it is funny.
What also distrubs me is Dragon Ball Z. My bro was a big fan, but he was like 19 back then. But there were also kids age 6 and up watching it, and you would see them play outside holding their hands in front of them and pretending to blast each other. That canīt be good!
