Looking for a book again
A friend told me about this but so far I've not had any luck finding it.
It's about a girl who's been genetically engineered (and called an 'evo-stepper') and has a number 9 tattooed on her right arm because she belongs to the 9th series or generation of evo-steppers.
She gets assigned to work on a terraforming project on a distant planet. Only she damages or sabotages it in some way and it is decided to maroon her on a nearby alien planet.
It might be a 'young adult' book from the 80's.
Please, does anyone know this book?

You might(if you haven't already) tried googling the term to see if it brings up any books(a tried and didn't get far myself, but I'm horrible at googling)
Also, some libraries have a program on their system that allows one to look up certain books with certain keywords, that might be another good bet.
I haven't heard of the story myself(but there's a lot I haven't heard of)- also try your local bookstore and see if you can find someone fairly knowledgable in SF.
I'll see if I can dig the term up somewhere

Greyseagull, Priestvyrce - thanks.
But its not Cyteen.
I've googled and found search engines for scifi books and librarians go on coffee breaks when I come in - I've not had any luck so far.
But thanks for trying.
I'll go on looking though.

Lost in a large book
Anne McCaffrey?
I think Anne McCaffrey has written something that roughly match your description, a book called Freedoms Landing.
I've never read the book myself, but I saw it some time ago in a bookshop and remembers some of the blurp. Try looking here: http://www.annemccaffrey.org/books/s...s-landing.html
Is that it?

I've read Freedom's Landing, its similiar but not what I'm looking for. But thanks for looking.
I'm sure its a Young Adult Science Fiction book from the 80's only I've not had any luck finding it. The girl is marooned alone on an alien planet after messing up a terraforming project in a nearby system. Only there's natives....

Hmm, the theme is kind of like Keeper of the Isis Light by Monica Hughes. I know that isn't it, but the two might show up on some of the same Amazon Listmania lists... and it might be worth seeing what else Monica Hughes has written.
I wasn't going to throw such a tenuous thing out there, but since nobody else can get it (and my googles had no success either)...

An excellent book by Monica Hughes is "Playing The Game" I believe it's called(It's got "The Game" in the title) Creative story about kids in a distant dark future, with a bit of a surprise ending(I thought anyway) Highly recommended
