Pregnant Anita
Nice way of putting it i suppose.
but i'm confused, why do you keep reading the books if (from what you've said) you don't like the way the character is going?
Is it just curiosity to what happens next?
I still think she's a great character.
Love Jean-Claude th best!
Just read what was on LKH website, don't believe.
She's pregnant, that's a shocker,
how'd you think that plays out?
Do you think she really is?
also, i'll definitely be getting Micah, cos there seems to be a newish plot in the book, with her travelling somewhere else on a police job. bit more like her earlier books hopefully

I like JC a lot, but in the last couple of books he has become a castrated house cat. Asher has become an invisible doormat, Willie and the pre-sexfest gang have been exiled, Dolph has become stupid and loutish. Only those who can play the vicitm or servant are left, the rest are made into lunatics (Ronnie and Richard) or exiled.
I don't really care if AB is preggers. She is too powerful, too selfish, and too much the queen bee for me to really like her anymore.

I think someone should start a Bring-us-back-old-Anita organization, where is the old Anita, the nice girl who just happened to hunt vampires in her spare time?

She's still the same girl
So what, her values have changed a little. Big deal
she's still a kick ass character
she was always a good girl, its about time she rebelled!!!!
You would, i mean shes gotta let off some steam somehow, everybody is always trying to kill her!!!
She's still the same bad-mouthed brutally honest character.
She's great and hillarious.
Ya might as well make the most of her men whilst she's got them.
Her character is developing, she's only in her late twenties and so goddamned confused!!!
go read Charlaine Harris's books if you are so offended by Anita. (Sookie is great by the way)Last edited by Tally; November 23rd, 2005 at 05:27 AM.

I'm not offended, i'm just bored with where the series went, from action/detectives into romance/erotica which is pretty boring to me, i also feel that the whole "vampires are sexy" theme is overdone.
Also, i liked Anita before, now i don't really, characters may develop with time, people do, but it doesn't mean everyone that liked them before keeps liking them when they change.
I wonder how many readers Hamilton lost over this and what the percentage of males among them.

Yes one can't help feeling that vampire, vampyres, wamphyrrs are done to death. How many more new takes can we have on our fanged friends.
VAMPIRES IN SPAAAAACE.
Whatever next? I can't help thinking we need a new monster/enemy/fiend/ in fantasy.

Its not that Anita has changed, it is that there is no basis for the change she has undergone. LKH developed her character to have certain beliefs and strengths, that has all been thrown out the window so AB can play the wimpy, victimized slut. Not only does it not work for the character, but the actual sex is boring to read, and has taken over so that there is no plot.
LKH had the Merry books to do sex that worked with the character. If she wanted Anita to loosen up or rebel, fine, but it has to work with whats been developed in the first 9 books. If the series was truthful, when Anita realized she couldn't control the ardeur she would have put her gun in her mouth and pulled the trigger. Anita is not someone who can take a loss of control, nor someone who allows bad behavior to be excused. She has always defined sex without committment and love, and multiple sex partners as being 'bad'. Even if Anita went nuts, she wouldn't keep it up for 3 books now.
If you look at the comments from the readers on Amazon, they are very negative for the book. The book rating is low and it is the first time that more people have been unhappy than have been satisfied. If LKH keeps it up I would think it would impact her sales eventually.
But, every new book now, I say I won't buy it, or I will wait for it to go into paper, but I always break down and get the HC.
So who knows, I just hope LKH gets bored with the sexfest and remembers to include a plot in the next book.
And no there aren't too many vampire books, just too many that are done poorly.

I believe she's still the same person, i mean she won't kill herself because she's got her leopards to protect, so it's not so straight forward.
Yes, the sex is boring and unbelievably pointless, but i can look beyond this trashiness, and see the story. I genuinely like reading about her problems, and her humour is still hilarious.
Also, she's a kick-ass character, and someone who kills for a living isn't going to stay squeaky clean. And i like the vampires, although she's introducing too many, i think they are great.
Her prejudice against vampires, we've seen deteriate because it was that, just an unsupported opinion, and like in modern day society she's found that she was wrong.
LKH isn't betraying her previous fans, but is trying to expand on the character, AB has seen so much that it's going to change her viewpoint on things.
Have some loyalty fans, don't be negative.

I read the new one and like it. Personally, I kind of like the flip-flop the series has gone through. I thought the old Anita was a bit... uptight. I will say the sex is a bit much but hey, it's a bit of erotica, so what?
Maybe its because I read them out of order that I like the middle ones the best. The newest one isn't the best, but I thought it was good. I will definately be picking up the next one and I'm curious as hell where this pregancy thing will lead. heh. Should be a fun read.

I reread Incubus Dreams a couple of days ago......got hold of Unleash the night by Kenyon and after reading it discovered it was time to wade back through my Blake books.
I enjoyed it this time around more than I did the first time, not sure why.......although I do find the emphasis now is on the sexual dynamics rather than any kind of crime-solving story. Of course, I don't mind this because I must be one of those female readers who are hooked into the preternatural sex scene.
I find Anita's sudden inability to live without some menage a'trois variation amusing.......Perhaps she needs to do what Merry does and just live with them all simultaneously. (being silly, of course)
I reread Guilty Pleasures last night and am now into Circus of the Damned because I needed to see the early Richard. Zeeman has become almost unrecognizable from the soft-spoken, romantic teacher of their first encounters.
When is Micah due?
And when do we see more of Asher? I am tired of references to him in bed with JC in the morning. I want details.
