I swear. I told Scott B right after I hit the 'place order' key, and we both decided that it must be some odd kind of promotion or something.

How is that possible? I just spent a bunch of money, mostly to ship, two books in a YA series that seems to be going out of print that my daughter is in love with from Amazon and a seller through Amazon. I never see any three books for a penny deals! What is this? How can you be buying Martin for one cent? Where did you see this? Did they send you an email? And what are you going to do when Matt comes hunting you with Oz's axe?

I'll surrender the books to him! As long as he takes Martin's as well.

Hey, wait a minute, how do I get in on this $.01 deal? I've got a ton of books I want to pick up.

I honestly have no idea. I logged on to Amazon.com, chose the books I wanted and that was the notice I received. The books all arrived today, intact and complete.

Well, I ordered the Spiderwick Chronicles for my daughter and Kevin's two books. No discount. I did see a thing where if you get their credit card you get $30 off. Did you do that?
February 24th, 2005, 07:07 PM #42
No, I got $28.33 off. I have no idea how they came up with that amount.

You sure you didn't have some gift certificate with them that you hadn't used up completely? Because that's what it sounds like -- left over credit, to get such an odd amount. Well, don't mind us, we're just all extremely jealous. I just went to the bookstore and used a gift card and all I could get were two paperbacks, they were so expensive.
The good news is that since you did pay the price before the promotional deduction, Matt should get his regular royalty. The bad news is that it's probably about 5% of net receipts to his publisher. But at least he might not come at you with an axe.

I would have bought them the day before in my local B & N. I went there first. Scott's Warrior Prophet was front and center on the fantasy shelves, but not one of Matt's books was in the store. They did a search and none of their stores had them with the exception of one old Star Wars episode. I honestly was really surprised and disappointed. So I went home and logged on to Amazon. It's certainly possible that I had some kind of certificate, though I almost never buy things from Amazon, so it seems kind of odd.

I also discovered the lack of Matt's books at all of my local bookstores. They all said they could order it for me, but I could do that myself.
I was curious, Gary, being that Kevin's books will be stocked soon, will yours?
