Love MATT REILLY, read all of his books. I started ICE STATION,
and just couldnt switch to another author/genre until I read
ALL-OF-THEM. Scarecrow books are Fun, Fast Action.
I also enjoyed the others, Contest and Temple.
Cant wait for his next installment of Scarecrow, or another
"action" book.

Great News for Reilly fans, there are TWO books planned for release in 2005. First up is a novella featuring SCARECROW in August:

The whole point of Books Alive is to get people reading, and with Hell Island I have pulled out all the stops and written an absolutely rampaging actioner featuring Shae ‘Scarecrow' Schofield. The basic premise: Schofield is parachuted into Hell Island , a remote Pacific island that was the venue for fierce fighting in WWII. It seems all contact has been lost with an entire aircraft carrier that stopped off at Hell Island . Mother is in it, too, and the villains will be like nothing you have ever read!!!
And then later in the year we have '7 Ancient Wonders' his biggest epic adventure yet!!!

He is also in the process of filming the movie version of 'Contest'.

Bad news, the paramount option on 'Ice Station' has lapsed.

EDIT: Sheepie, if the novella is only available in Oz, could you grab me a copy and I'll send you the cash?

I got 7 Ancient Wonders for Christmas and whipped through it in a couple of days... it is excellent!

Indiana Jones meets The Da Vinci Code but based on egyptian mythology and the US as the bad guys!

Typical Reilly, high-octane, outrageous adventure and I loved it.

Hey, Sheepie, any luck with the Novella? It's only available in Oz!?!

What does everyone think of "7 Deadly Wonders" and the new "Six Sacred Stones"? Alot of the reviews are really negative, but they are really, really good books! I dunno its 'cause Im a history buff, but the mix of action and history is probably the greatest combo ever.

He really makes you think about different alternate histories. Everyone should go buy these now! Only problem is I have to wait a year for the next book..

The Six Sacred Stones is great (the sequel to 7 ancient wonders)!!! It introduced me to Reilly (I got it for Christmas) and have since started working my way backwards through his books. I also really liked 7 ancient wonders- I love the mix of ancient history, quests and action flick. (I also love the fact that his main character is an Aussie...I was very surprised to learn after reading Ice Station etc that Reilly's Aussie- his earlier books were so Americanised! not that thats bad it was just a surprise...oh and if u hadnt guessed, im aussie) anyway

I've since read Ice Station, Scarecrow, Area 7 and Hover Car Racer. I quite enjoyed Ice Station- i mean its an hollywood action flick on paper (and I have nothing at all against that) but the other two scarecrow books then started to feel the same (very formulaic) i mean scarecrow goes on a mission- Enemy foreign nation 1 turns up, he defeats them, then enemy foreign nation 2 arrives and he defeats them, and then America (his home country and the people he works for) then decides they need to kill him, and he defeats them....maybe I read them in too short a space of time (i just went from one to the other in a week or two) but Hover Car Racer was a good one that didn't have scarecrow in it, and quite different to the other books of his i'd read...

anyway im really looking forward to the sequel of 6 sacred stones!!!

Matthew Reilly's novels are a good light read; exactly what he intended them to be. Reading them is basically like watching the latest Hollywood action flick, but you get to visualise all the special effects and characters yourself. I'm all for it, and it's a great diversion from some of the more cerebral reading.

However, I wish he'd ease up on the exclamation marks in his prose.
