Smile jerle shannara

This series is a little different than the previous ones also.It deals with some things that you wouldn't expect in a more traditional fantasy book but I don't want to give too much away. Enjoy!

Before I say this, I just want to point out that I am a fan of Terry Brooks.
I found this series pretty frustrating. Terry Brooks just can't seem to create any interesting new characters, and ends upladling up the same old Ohmsford, Leah and druid characters straight from the production line. Granted, some of his side characters do hold a bit of interest, but these are generally overshadowed by the carbon copied main characters. I'm also getting a bit tired of the good ol' sword of shannara being able to resolve every world threatening conflict going around. He's tried to vary things a bit this time - the introduction of air ships and a different setting isn't a bad idea. It's not supported by enough interesting characters though.

I think when Terry tries he can do something refreshing - just look at his Word and Void trilogy. I wouldn't even mind if he did more stories in the four lands, just without the whole "Ohmsford scion from quiet village and sword wielding Leah with great hunting skills are recruited by ominous druid who reveals they are only hope to destroying evil, but first they must find the sword of shannara which is the only tool capable of defeating said evil" plotline.

WOW! How you have even written this?

Well, I read only the original "Shannara Trilogy"... allanon says I should read his next saga "the Heritage of Shannara Tetralogy"... I still can find time and strength to do it...

I just finished reading the sword of Shannara again for the second or third time. I am also a Terry Brooks fan. I like the first three books, but the heritage is definetely my favorite set of books in the shannara series with my favorite characters. I think that it is worth the time to read it. THe four books go together, unlike the first ones whtich were stand alone. Sometimes when I reread them I only read the story lines of my favorite characters. As far as the earlier comment goes I do agree that some of the story lines and characters are starting to seem a little the same. While reading the Sword I kept expecting things to happen and when they didn't I'd realize they happened in a different book with either a similar character or in the same location. I didn't enjoy this last set of books as much as I did the first eight books. Brooks is still one of my favorite authors though.
