Isaac Asimov's Nemesis
Any thoughts? It's one of Asimov's very few non-Foundation/Empire/Robot novels, even though I think it was mentioned in one of the later foundation novels, it's pretty much a standalone.
Editorial Reviews/Synopses
I'm really enjoying it so far (241-386 pages). Am I going to be satisfied with the ending?

I read in in High School, probably 8 or 9 years ago... I remember liking it, but not many of the details. I think the ending was pretty good though.

Oh yes, I loved the ending. I wish he had written some type of sequel. I really love the universe it's set in.

I suppose you are reading the novelisation, written in collaboration with Robert Silverberg? It is a decent novel, but the original short story version of Nightfall is far better - possibly the finest sf novel ever.
The novelisation faltered in what should have been its great pull - the attempt to go beyond the acopalyptic ending of the original short story.

Knives- I have to agree with you that "Nightfall" the short story is infinitly better than "Nightfall" the novelisation. It should never have been expanded, and I'll never forgive Robert Silverberg.
However, I believe that "Nemesis" was always a novel, never a short story?

To put it less politely, Knivesout goofed up!! I saw 'Asimov', saw 'N---' assumed 'Nightfall' and jumped in!!!
Yet another reminder that eternal vigilance is the price of liberty...
As for Silverberg's novelisation of Nightfall - I don't really hold it against him. It was never gong to be an easy job, and he tried. I am certain the money involved was part of the reason, and given what I hear of the financial vagaries of being an SF writer, I don't blame him for that either.

Nemesis was an interesting read, although it had a similar tone to some of his later novels (which I didn't quite like, overall, as his earlier ones). I'm a big Asimov fan, and this is one book I'd rank as one of his mid-listers, not up there with The Gods Themselves, The Foundation Trilogy or The End of Eternity, but not scraping the dregs with The Stars, Like Dust...
