Writing Excercises

Anyone interested in some writing excercises? These things help with different aspect of writings- i.e. one could be on dialogue, another on setting, etc.

here's how it works. On of us proposes an excercise, then we all write a short (<1 page) piece, and others can read/critique, or learn from our writings. I took a creative writing class years ago in college, and this was what all the speakers who talked to our class recommended we do regularly. I know that Anne Rice does this according to an interview we read about her- it helps her "stay sharp"

This board would be an excellent place to work on these skills, sort of a "virtual classroom"

I second the motion, don't know how much *I* will be able to participate (starting new job on Monday), but it is a good idea.

Sounds like fun, though limiting myself to one page will be a challenge.

I was just thinking of posting and asking if anyone did this kind of thing, and there it was, Ta Da - magic huh??

Anyway, i'm up for giving it ago! i think i can manage <1 page, but that's about all... Final Year at uni sucks!!!

Well, seing as I'm crossing my fingers for some sort of reply on my obscure request- sure- ok, count me in.
Subject?
Deadline?
Somebody get the ball rolling, I don't like the idea of a virtual "classroom", workshop would be the word no?
so long as it's benificial & not compeditive.
One final thing, I'm new here (I think almost everyone is actually) somebody tell me how you get those smiley faces?

Okay, I'll post a new thread with the first excercise, then we all can post our submissions as replies. Feel free to critique, but be fair and unbiased- and if you're being critiqued, don't get too defensive.

If you don't feel like posting, just do the excercise at home for the first time, then look at other postings for ideas and hints.

There is an excercise with its own thread on this board- excercise #1.

Anyone who is ready, go for it. As many people who are interested feel free t opost, its all about refining/practising our writing skills, not a competition.
