I admit it. This game is a narcotic. I am 64 years old and have written two published books on education and for the life of me I can't escape it. Since a student of mine introduced me to it I have used up 400 discs, several hundred games on the internal drives and I spend time just thinking about my next game. I know that there several followups that I have tried but I always go back to Civ 1. I would do near anything (within reason) to get a perfect set of ndiscs as mine are (get this) wearing out. I confess I am a lousy player but I have fun that only a sim 1 junkey would understand.

I must say that when this game was released it had me hooked from the beginning. Countless hours were spent building cities and fighting the neighbours in the race to build my civilization. Roads, railroads, farmlands... truly a game that captured the mind.

I think in many ways this was the game that set the standard for stragey games back then.
