I was a big fan of the book and when I saw this movie I expected a level of faithfulness. I found it quite annoying that David Lynch(the director) removed all fantasy overtones and made it a complete Scifi story, it killed the idea for me.

As a film on its own (ignoring that the books even exist) you can enjoy the acting, pace and scope. As a film with the books, well you can't look at it that way if you want to enjoy it.

If you're looking for the video version of the books go for the miniseries. If your just looking for a scifi film, check it out its quite interesting.

When I first watched Dune back in it's "days of release" I didn't really get it being a hardcore StarWars fan but getting a bit older; and wiser (!!) I must say that this is an excellent movie with a wonderful plot. It's not easy to make epic saga's on screen; and the movie suffers a bit from "compression" but otherwise it's a pleasure to behold this movie.

I enjoyed this version very much. It touched upon much that Lynch glossed over. There where a few things I disliked. Like Shaddam's silver outfit. He needed to be un a Burseg's uniform. Also I think they could have explained the breeding program a bit more. My biggest problem was the Calidan part in the opening. It should have looked more like a castle rather then a space ship.
