Out of Time

I recently attended the action packed movie “Out of Time” starring oscar-winning Denzel Washington. The film comes from MGM pictures and is directed by Carl Franklin and written by David Collard. The movie is 114 minutes long, and is rated PG-13.
Denzel Washington plays Matt Lee Whitlock, a sheriff of Banyon Key Florida, who steals several hundred thousand dollars in drug money from a previous case he was involved in. He gives the money to Sanaa Lathan, who plays Ann Merai, who is Matt’s first love back from high school. She is a conniving unpredictable woman, who is having an affair with Matt. She is married to a guy named Chris, who is an ex-NFL football player, and is abusive to her. Ann Merai has a form of cancer in the liver and the lungs, and needs an experimental cancer therapy that is only available in Switzerland. Later on, Matt is being pointed at as a murderer. Matt is an innocent man, who commits an illegal act, but only with good intentions. He is trying to help out Ann Merai, but ends up getting himself into a huge bind. The police tell Matt that they want the drug money from the previous case right away. Matt panics and there is much chaos to come. Washington stars in this movie, trapped and working against time. He is under a lot of pressure, and has no one he can turn to.
I thought that the characters in “Out of Time” performed very well. Denzel Washington was great. His performance was just as good in every other movie he has been in, if not better. I really enjoyed Washington in “The Bone Collector” also, and thought he had an outstanding performance. Washington is just a really believable character. He always seems to fit his part. I really like Washington, and think he is a great actor. He connects with his character in this movie, as he does in his other movies. Ann Merai also had a very good performance. She is a favorite of mine ever since she starred in “Love and Basketball”. She plays a manipulative woman that is having an affair with Matt, and you don’t really know what to expect from her in the movie, at least I didn’t. I didn’t know what she was going to pull next. Dean Cain played Chris, Ann Merai’s husband, also did very well. He definitely fit the part as a tough guy. Also, Eva Mendes performs very well in the movie. She plays Alex, Matt’s wife who has left him. She also fits her part very well by acting like she’s too good for Matt. She is a good actress.
If you are a fan of Denzel Washington, you will really like this movie. Also, if you like Sanaa Lathan you will also like the movie. Both are phenomenal and have great performances. Their affair seems so overpowering. If you like a lot of action in a movie, you will enjoy this movie. I think teenagers and adults, both male and female, would enjoy this movie, it is entertaining for both. The only thing is that there is some sexual content, violence, and some language. Both my dad and I really liked it, so I think most age groups would find it high-quality.
“Out of Time” had me on the edge of my seat. There was a lot of suspense in the movie, and kept me wanting to watch until the end. It left me guessing till the very end. There were some twists and turns in the movie that I was not even expecting. The movie was very good and very well organized. It all ended up fitting together in the end. Not knowing what was coming next, was how I felt about the movie. I found it to be very entertaining and I really enjoyed it.
There were times when you would think that Matt was done for, for sure, but it was hard to know what to expect out of the movie. At times, you would think that it would be the typical action packed movie, and have the same ending as most movies do, the good guy comes out on top, but with this movie you wouldn’t really know what was going to happen, just because of all the suspense, and how things ended up working out. With all the twists and turns, you never knew what to expect.
Overall, out of five stars, I would give the movie four. It had a very good plot, and kept me watching and entertained. I would recommend people who just want to see a good movie and who like action to go out and see this movie. It is worth the money because I feel it was action-packed and it had a lot of suspense. I really enjoy suspense and not knowing what is going to happen, so I really enjoyed the movie.
