Submitted by Michael Christian (May 15, 2007) A Clockwork Orange is an ultra violent – futuristic look at post adolescence gone awry in a society mired in political intrigue and instability. This movie is one of Stanley Kubrick’s greatest works – Kubrick having captured a truly frightening vision of a future that only a true master could imprint on celluloid and not loose the meaningfulness of the story to overwhelming graphic violence.
Malcolm McDowell shines as the sociopath Alex DeLarge our “Humble Narrator” and leader of a gang of thugs who rape pillage and plunder a futuristic English landscape. McDowell’s performance brings to life one of motion pictures most loathsome villains and is one of his greatest efforts to date. Alex rates as one of my top ten screen villians for his vicious manipulation of all around him as well as his cold blooded violence.
A Clockwork Orange was nominated as best picture by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences lossing out to The French Connection. Kubrick was also nominated for best Director. The award went to William Friedkin for The French Connection. A Clockwork Orange is considered by many to be one of the greatest movies ever made and you have to love the dialogue
