Star Wars: Battlefront 2

(2005-09-23)

Da da da da da daaa da da daaa, da da da da da daaa da da daaa.

You sang it, I sang it, and your second cousin Shelly sang it the moment each of us popped Star Wars: Battlefront (Lucas Arts and Pandemic Studios) into our consoles just over a year ago today. Well, start warming up those vocal cords again because Star Wars: Battlefront 2 is very nearly here. November 1 sees the release of the sequel to the game that refreshed the Star Wars series and made it fun again!

That's right kiddies, Battlefront 2 is almost upon us and it's looking great. The game, which will be available for the PC, Xbox, PS2, and PSP, takes the large-scale battles of its predecessor to a whole new level. Exciting new features include the obligatory new locations, weapons, vehicles, and classes, as well as some new gameplay.

This time around you'll not only be playing the part of faceless soldiers, but also your favorite heroes from the Star Wars universe. Jedi and Empire characters will sport a wide variety of new abilities and weapons, such as Vader's force choke and the numerous lightsabers. No longer will you be relying on that Dark Trooper's awful shotgun! Expect more in-depth combat of the type seen in the Jedi Knights series.

As for the new gameplay, well, that's something to really get excited about. Battlefront 2 will feature dog fights in space, but will also allow you to dock on the various large ships (both yours and your enemies'), disembark, and continue fighting on foot!

Of course, multiplayer mode has also returned, better than ever. The Xbox boasts 32-player support, the PS2 24-player support, and the PC a whopping 64-player support. As for single player, you'll have an all new objective-based campaign to fight your way through, in which you'll be taking on the role of Lord Vader's elite Stormtroopers.

Also shipping on November 1 is the DVD copy of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, on which you'll find a playable Xbox demo of Battlefront 2.
