Stargate series renewed for another season (2005-11-08)
SCI FI channel has recently ordered new seasons of the series Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis.
In the 9th season, the new commander of SG-1 Lt. Colonel Cameron Mitchell the team faces the priests of a new religion whose focus is the powerful Ori. Rivals of the ascended beings known as the Ancients, they demand worship from humans in the "lower planes" or complete annihilation will befall the unbelievers. This new threat endangers not only Earth but also the newly liberated humans who previously lived under the harsh G'oauld rule. Adding to the complications is the new Jaffa nation and the strong civilian presence in the Stargate Command itself. The 10th season of SG-1 will make it the longest running sci-fi series on American cable television, averaging 2.4 million users in the first half of the 9th season.
In the second season the Atlantis team continues to battle the Wraith not only to help the inhabitants of the Pegasus galaxy but to prevent the Wraith from ever reaching Earth itself. Beating the enemy that defeated the Ancients themselves will prove a difficult task.
Production of the third season of Stargate Atlantis and the 10th season of Stargate SG-1 is scheduled for early 2006.
