Parental controls for PS3 (2005-11-28)Obviously the PS3 will bring about revolutionary graphics, more realistic than we can probably at this point imagine, and therefore Sony has taken the proper steps to ensure that young gamers are protected from the more explicit aspects of certain games (namely the blood and gore). The PS2 did allow for some levels of parental control, though they could only be applied to films, and so with the average age of gaming being around 30, it may well be gamers of more recent generations can expect to see less variety than they did with the PS2. As stated before, this is solely due to the fact that the PS3 will be far more powerful and naturally all developers will want to take full advantage of this, whether the game be horror or fantasy based (just think of a next-gen Manhunt - ouch!).
To conclude, parental controls will be fully applicable to all aspects of the forthcoming Playstation 3 (games and movies alike). Microsoft and Nintendo have already stated that this fuction will be present in their systems (Xbox 360 and Nintendo Revolution, respectively). So, if you're a worried parent then perhaps this will settle your nerves :)
