2006 Short Story Competition

(2006-11-16)

 CLOSED

SFFWorld 2006 Short Story Competition

Finally! The folks behind the scenes have burst into action, and another sffworld short story competition has arrived! Entry is open to anyone.

We’re looking for all and any previously unpublished short stories on a speculative fiction theme. To help preserve the sight of the poor souls who have ‘volunteered’ to read all your fab entries, we ask that you keep to a maximum of 3000 words. In order to help preserve their souls, we ask that you steer away from gratuitous violence, or too much erotic content.

Our favourite three stories will be published on the site, with big shiny links letting everyone know where to find them, and telling everyone how great you are. There will also be a prize for the winner.

To enter our fabulous competition, all you have to do is become a member of the ‘Sffworld community’, and then follow the simple guidelines below. Membership and competition entry are both free of charge. To join the community, click here to join our forums, and then click here to finalise your community account. If you’re already a member of our bustling forums then lucky you: just hit the second link. Then just hit the third, huge, unmissable, ‘submit your story’ link at the bottom of the page, and away you go!

Okay - that’s the fun over with. Now the small print:

SFFworld Short Story Competition: Rules 2006

i) Genre - Speculative Fiction of any sort. No erotica/excessive violence/fan fiction.

ii) Entrants must be members of the SFFworld Community (Free)

iii) Entries must be unpublished in any format.

iv) The decision of the Judges is final.

v) By submitting your story, you are allowing SFFWorld the first option on electronic publishing rights.

vi) Sffworld will publish the three winning stories on the sffworld site, and reserves the right to include them in a future anthology. Copyright remains with the author.

vii) There will be a prize for the winner. It's not been confirmed yet, but it looks like it will be a Serenity comic signed by Firefly and Buffy director Joss Whedon.

viii) Once the contest resultss are official all contest entries will also be published in the SFFWorld short story section as well as on a special page showcasing all contest entries. Non-winning entrants are free to delete their story from the site at any time, this can be done via their SFFWorld Community page.

ix) The Closing Date is 31/12/06. Results will be announced no later than 15/01/07.

Good luck!
