Alice Borchardt (1939-2007)
Fantasy, horror and historical romance writer Alice Borchardt passed away from cancer in her home in Houston, Texas in the U.S. on July 24, 2007, at the age of 67. Borchardt first worked as a nurse, then published the romance novel Devoted in 1995. Her best known works are the fantasy series Legends of the Wolves, a trilogy entitled The Silver Wolf, Night of the Wolf and The Wolf King. Borchardt is survived by her husband, Clifford, and four sisters, including bestselling novelist Anne Rice.
Joe L. Hensley (1926-2007)
Science fiction and mystery author Joe L. Hensley died August 27, 2007, at the age of 81, from complications from leukemia at King’s Daughter’s Hospital in Madison, Indiana in the U.S.. He began publishing sf in 1953 with stories in Planet Stories and Beyond Fantasy Fiction, and collaborated with writers such as Harlan Ellison and Alexei Panshin. His first novel was The Color of Hate, released by Ace Books in 1960. A former lawyer and judge, he wrote 20 novels and collections, and over 100 short stories. He also wrote under the pen name Louis J.A. Adams. His last novel, Snowbird's Blood, is due for release in early 2008 from St. Martin’s Press.
