Games - Is the GameCube dead? (2005-01-10)Major retailers have started selling both GameCube hardware and software at massively reduced prices, sparking suggestions that the Nintendo GameCube is in serious trouble.
With a GameCube selling for $70, £40 or 55euros approx in the various regions of the world, there is a worry that stockists are lowering prices to get rid of their remaining stock. Nintendo moved quickly to quash such rumours officially stating that "Nintendo Gamecube is still the best value home console on the market. We have a very strong software line-up for Nintendo Gamecube in 2005 including Resident Evil 4, Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat and The Legend of Zelda."
However with rumours running rife that both PS3 and X-Box 2 will be unveiled soon and yet no sign of a next-gen Nintendo console, one wonders could this be it for Nintendo? Will they follow Sega into the 'games-makers only' category?
