Games - DS starts with a bang
Good news! Australia has a confirmed release date and price for the Nintendo DS. As Australia uses the Pal system, the same as Europe, this means that a European release date is surely not far away, possibly even coinciding with Sony's PSP. However whilst the PSP has a price tag approaching 250 euros or £200, the DS cost in Australian dollars is only $199.95. Meaning at current exchange rates thats only 116 euros or £81. Twice as cheap as a PSP. Although there will almost certainly be a price rise for the DS on release in Europe, those suggesting a tag of approximately 170 euros or £130 may have over-estimated a fair bit. Lets hope this is the case.
In other DS related news, Nintendo have already sold over 1.3 million units of their new handheld console in America. Hailed for its innovative use of the dual screen, rather than those who cynically called it a gimmick, the DS, with the Gameboy Advanced, which sold eight million plus units in the US in 2004, represents a staggering mountain for Sony to climb in the handheld war.
With over 120 games planned for the DS including; WarioWare: Touched!, Pokemon Dash and Yoshi's Touch and Go and 125 titles planned for the Gameboy Advanced including; WarioWare: Twisted, Mario Party Advance, Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones and Pokemon Emerald, it looks like the rumours of Nintendo's departure may have been a little premature.
