Japan PES4 goes on-line (2005-01-18)ISS was one of the most playable games on the PS1, the through-pass activated by the triangle button was one of the great innovations that ISS brought to footballing games. When ISS grew up to become the brilliant Pro Evolution Soccer, Playstation fans were in rapture. Then the advent of PES4 on the X-Box with on-line play took the wind out of the Playstation gamers sails.
In an attempt to make it up to Japanese playstation owners, Konami have started work on an online version named Winning Eleven 8: LE (Winning Eleven 8 being the Japanese equivalent of PES4)
LE is short for Livewire Edition. This improved version of the game will include single net matches aswell as online league and cup-ties. In a move to maintain a true football 'community' Konami have included a chat mode and ranking system, so you can joke with friends and trash talk foes. Early indications from Japan suggest that using the game with the network adaptor is a simple and quick affair.
The offline capabilities of the game have been improved with a single new formation added, along with team, transfer and player updates. Although Winning Eleven 8: LE won't make it to Europe or seemingly America, the Japanese version is playable in eight different languages.
So risk importing for an early experience or wait for PES5, with Konami's gurantee that the fifth outing of the Pro Evolution franchise will allow Playstation owners to see what all the fuss is about.
