Jay and Seth Vs. the Apocalypse (2008-06-18) Jay and Seth Vs. the Apocalypse Last year, screenwriters Evan Goldberg and Jason Stone talked Goldberg’s writing partner Seth Rogen and actor Jay Baruchel into doing a fake movie trailer and short film, currently in post-production, with the hope of maybe turning it into a larger feature. The trailer, for the pretend film Jay and Seth Vs. the Apocalypse, features Rogen and Baruchel playing themselves, trapped in an apartment after an apocalypse of invading monsters has wreaked havoc on Earth. It was a huge hit online. Now Mandate Pictures, flush from their hit film Juno, has agreed to make the feature length film, beating out several other studios. Rogen and Goldberg will write the script and have been given full control and final cut rights on the project. Stone and Baruchel will also serve as executive producers. The film is scheduled for production in 2009, once a director is found, and will be worked into Rogen’s super-packed schedule. (He is currently filming a movie with Judd Apatow and Adam Sandler, and then will be shooting the much delayed The Green Hornet superhero movie, which he is also writing with Goldberg.) Baruchel’s next film appearance will be in this summer’s up-coming comedy Tropic Thunder, with Ben Stiller, Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr. The trailer can be viewed on You Tube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehNFPShWTsg
