DS European release date confirmed (2005-01-27) The DS will be released in the UK and Europe on March 11th and will cost £99.99 (approx 140 euros) Nintendo confirmed at a press event in Paris.
As with the US launch, the DS will be packaged with a demo of Metroid Prime Hunters: First Hunt.
15 titles will be available on release at a cost of either £19.99 (30 euros) or £29.99 (40 euros) depending on the title.
In the initial release there will be four games from Nintendo, which will be:
- Pokemon Dash
- Super Mario 64 DS
- Wario Ware Touched
- Polarium
and eleven third-party launch titles, which will be:
- Project Rub
- Spider-man 2
- The Urbz
- Rayman DS
- AsphaltGT
- Mr Driller Drill
- Spirits
- Robots
- Sprung The Dating Game
- TigerWoods
- PingPals
- Zoo Keeper
650,000 units will be available across Europe at launch. Significantly this is more than was available on release in either the Japan or the US. "The European market is incredibly important," said Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata. "Nintendo are thinking globally, acting globally, doing so much more as a global company".
Post-release Nintendo have confirmed that Mario Kart DS will bea mong a host of games released later in the year and will support a cool eight players via WiFi.
Other games due later in the year include Castlevania DS, Nintendogs, Advance Wars DS, Retro Atari Classics, Jam with the Band and Another.
Everyone now awaits a similar announcement from Sony about the PSP, so that the hand-helds can go head to head.
