News: New book from Andy Weir announced.

Exciting news for anyone who enjoyed The Martian:

Ebury is delighted to announce that they will publish ARTEMIS, the new novel from worldwide bestselling author of THE MARTIAN, Andy Weir.  Ebury bought British Commonwealth rights from Crown, and will publish ARTEMIS simultaneously with the US on their Del Rey imprint on 14th November 2017. Film rights have been acquired in a pre-empt by 20th Century Fox and New Regency, with Simon Kinberg and Aditya Sood, two of the producers of THE MARTIAN, attached to produce for Genre Films.

A smart, funny, irresistible new adventure thriller, ARTEMIS is a heist set on the moon. Like THE MARTIAN, Andy Weir has created a fascinating, detailed world, based in real science and featuring a witty female protagonist every bit as memorable as Mark Watney.

Jazz Bashara is a criminal.
Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you’re not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you’ve got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent.

Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down. But pulling off the impossible is just the start of Jazz’s problems, as she learns that she’s stepped square into a conspiracy for control of Artemis itself – and that now, her only chance at survival lies in a gambit even more unlikely than the first.

Andy Weir said, ‘I’m really excited about ARTEMIS. I got to do the science-dork stuff I love, but this time with a much more complex and character-driven plot. It’s a big stretch for me, but I think it came out well. Hopefully the readers will agree.’

Ebury Fiction Publishing Director, Gillian Green, said, ‘Publishing THE MARTIAN has been a roller coaster ride of excitement for all of us here at Ebury and we’re delighted that we’re all on board again for Andy’s new book. ARTEMIS has all the ingredients that we love about Andy’s writing and that made THE MARTIAN such a global phenomenon – it’s a story of human survival and it’s full of drama, humour and cool science. This is a genre-busting SF novel that will again have broad appeal to non-genre fans,  wrapped up in a fresh, high concept adventure and with a lead character who quite frankly I’d back in a fight with Mark Watney!’

Andy Weir’s debut novel THE MARTIAN was a Sunday Times and New York Times bestseller and a Richard and Judy Book Club pick, winning multiple international awards. It went on to become a major motion picture from 20th Century Fox, directed by Ridley Scott and starring Matt Damon.

ANDY WEIR built a career as a software engineer until THE MARTIAN allowed him to write full time. He is a lifelong space nerd and a devoted hobbyist of subjects such as relativistic physics, orbital mechanics, and the history of manned spaceflight. He lives in California and in the years since THE MARTIAN’s publication, he’s now made dozens of media appearances, spoken at thousands at places like Google and NASA, written and produced a network TV pilot, even testified before a Senate subcommittee – befriending idols like Chris Hadfield and George RR Martin along the way.
